Nope, no mistake .. I haven't entered a space there, but I DO know about the space appearing when that line is copy/pasted, which is why directly underneath reads:-

Visually check the edit to make sure there are no spaces where there shouldn't be, then SAVE the file, and exit gedit.

But I've extended that slightly to:-

(be sure to visually check before saving, some people are reporting that when they copy/paste the above a space is appearing in pciehp_force between _ and f)

Finally did it. All went pretty well, though thought I made crucial mistake. Did the 2 checkboxes choices: install updates, and install restricted extras- saw you listed 2 things and there were 2 things, then a few steps later saw WAIT on restricted extras. But it did do a new installation of restricted-software, so maybe all OK. Had good live Internet and it downloaded 300 files.  Read the instructions 3 times, but can't do it slow enough. Wish I had manually set swap at 1gig- with 1 1/2g RAM don't need 1.6. (Maybe still can -that shouldn't mess up the files 3.6g back?)Anyway, it seemed to go OK whole installation, but couldn't find Skype or apt-xarian-index; tried changing repositories 3 times- Berlin, Ukraine, Columbia + updated, but couldn't find package. Couldn't find Skype in software updater either. Copied alot of profile into FF, not all (plugins, prefs), and it might be a bit unstable.
Even ttf-mscorefonts-installer and lubuntu-extras seem to install OK (with slight warning). But when I tried to install right card-reader, started getting all kinds of permission hassles with "sudo update-grub" error most alarming. No, it somehow added an extra quote when I saved it twice. NOW OK!

The Jupiter isn't changing color or shape when you pull power cable- should it be "power-on-demand"; and should video display be "both displays clone" (Is that the workspace?)

It's xapian, not xarian:

If you read the part that covers Jupiter .. you'll see I mentioned that it doesn't always auto switch .. but you can switch it manually.

That explains it- I was under the weather and copied from laptop, stupid rather than copying and pasting. Xapian is a  searchable database toolkit? What programs is it used in or necessary for? I'm a little shocked I only have 2.6g left without any data. Also installed Java 6 JRE, Audiocity, GFTP, GThumb (is there a more efficient LXDE program?).

The Jupiter is switching now, it just had to stabilize.

On the Russian language, you don't drag it above the 2nd English listing, right, or that makes it default on the whole system. It won't actually switch without that inserted code? I was totally confused when I installed it, but it still wasn't highlighted. Looks like the PREFERENCES/input keyboard switcher was set to "none" - with system default may find the Russian.

Can I reduce the swap by .6 gig without erasing the SSD? I've actually done it before w GParted boot CD.

Check you did stage 4 again.

Once all the extra repos are enabled .. close Synaptic, and run:

then

sudo apt-get install skype

Yes, you should be able to resize the swap partition, then expand the main partition .. you'll have to do this from your Peppermint 3 LiiveUSB, and use gparted.

Saved that code you listed in Gedit, and rebooted, but not getting a shred of Cyrillic. The Russian shows checked, that is, installed. It tried to  chose Ukrainian on installation, though it is supposedly Russian (but sold in Ukr), although when you test the keys with Ubuntu, it says Bulgarian, entirely wrong.

Yes, you were right- I didn't add 5 repositories off the screen. Hope that didn't mess up my installation. I did that sudo apt get-update 10 times after every step. There Skype is. Could that have caused my language switching problem too?

Can we presume the flash player is current with all new installation, or what is command for that? No it doesn't show Flash Plug-in is installed, but Daily Show and videos play OK so I don't care.

Well you didn't follow the tutorial properly then .. what's the output from:

You don't necessarily need JAVA at all .. I wouldn't have it enabled in my browser .. but IF  were to have it enabled, it would be the iced-tea plugin.

Yes .. ALL software is coming from the same repositories, no matter how you install it (manual downloading/installing excepted of course)

5.8GB is excessive (people have no problem fitting Peppermint on a 4GB EeePC with a swap partition and room to spare) .. try cleaning your package cache (after installing software/update):

Try bleachbit .. but be aware, there is no such thing as a completely safe system cleaner .. so check what it's going to remove first.

I had all 8 pages of your manual open at once on lappy, so did everything judiciously. No I have 1.5g swap so after that CLEAN instruction,  3.6g used of 6.5, 3.0 free- not too bad. Thanks. I  just filled my 16 SD 85% with all the stuff off the Linpus. Time for a 32gb

Microphone is somewhat crucial for Skype and if audiocity works may use it for radio recording (w external). For 2 years of so didn't have the internal, and dearly missed it.

No, but I have a tiny 7 gig partition at the end of the disc on laptop for Ubuntu so I have to be ruthless on space. Guess that would work.

Got any ideas on jimmying the internal mike to work
