It worked! :)

Code: [Select]
vishal@vishalcomp:~$ uname -a
Linux vishalcomp 3.2.34-030234-generic #201211161335 SMP Fri Nov 16 18:36:29 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Had to 'Enable Wireless' manually, though.

OK, to half the GRUB timer -

run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

find the line that reads:-

GRUB_TIMEOUT=10

and change it to:-

GRUB_TIMEOUT=5

SAVE the file, and exit gedit.

Back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub

Reboot to test.

I'm hoping the having to manually enable wireless will sort itself .. as it did before .. so reboot a few times and let me know.

It all works wonderfully! :) I too hope that issue of manually enabling wireless sorts out by itself.

Mark, you have been a great help and I just can't thank you enough! I learned a lot too through all of this!

Thank you once again! :)

you're welcome :)

Did the manually enabling wireless sort itself a while ago .. or have you ALWAYS had to enable it since we got it working ?

It was auto connecting - till the system rebooted with 3.8 recovery mode. Since then, wireless needs to be enabled manually. I wonder what could have gone wrong with that seemingly innocuous reboot!

Dunno .. hopefully it will sort itself .. if it doesn't in a day or two, let me know and we'll look into a fix.

Theoretically we could write a script to enable wireless and set that to run at startup .. but I'd rather find out WHY it's not sticking across a breboot if it becomes necessary.

Hey Mark - even after multiple reboots, the system still needs manual intervention to enable wireless! Wonder, if we could do something to fix it.

Is it just wifi you need to enable in networkmanager .. or networking ?

can you reboot (so wireless is OFF) then run this command to see if it enables it:
Code: [Select]
nmcli nm wifi on

if that doesn't work, try:
Code: [Select]
nmcli nm enabled true

If one of those works .. try adding the command as an autostart action.

Hey Mark...sorry, couldn't reply earlier- was travelling. Added "nmcli nm wifi on" command to startup applications. Works wonderfully! Thank You! :)
