OK, the next test is a reboot, but there's a slight chance that your PC will refuse to boot .. if it does, do you know how to "comment out" those 6 entries in /etc/fstab ? (from a LiveCD/LiveUSB)

Check the family-tree folder (in NAS on desktop) .. can you see the files ?

Yes I know what to do place a # at the begining of each line is that correct ?

You got it .. ok reboot, then test those shortcuts on the desktop

Booted perfect all the shortcuts are working and I can't thank you enough

You deserve a medal for perseverance, if this exercise proved anything is why people like me should NOT be using Linux, but it wont stop me so keep alert because it probably wont be long before i break something else and I'll probably need you again

Do you honestly think I would remember how to do that again if I had to ?

BTW, if you've ever tried troubleshootin g a broken Windows network, you'd quickly realise Linux is no harder, believe me
