What do you reckon ?

I do not have grub-gfxpayload-lists on mine (LMDE). that might be peppermint specific.
Here is mine for reference:

OK, we can leave it out of the list .. I'm guessing mint must get at least some of these from the mint specific repos rather than the Ubuntu ones because grub-pc (from ubuntu) would pull in grub-gfxpayload-lists as a dependency.

So this looks about right to me then:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall grub-common grub-pc grub-pc-bin grub2-common os-prober

then run:

sudo update-grub

and post the output .. preferably before rebooting.

Or it can wait .. up to Tramlink
(I suppose there's something to be said for "if it aint broken...", but this time I think it should probably be fixed sooner rather than later)

AS it was correct I rebooted and it's all working fine.

As a matter of interest I have not had a Kernel update since I installed the system.

I seem to remember that mint do not update the Kernel as a matter of course.

I seem to have the same issue with my peppermint 3 lap top with Win 98 I use for playing old DOS games.

I seem to have 2 Linux partitions when there should only be one.  Can you tell me which one has peppermint 3 on and then I can delete the other and resize the P3 partition.

If you were booted into Peppermint when you ran the above commands (in other words if that fstab file is from Peppermint).. then:-

Peppermint = /dev/sda6
swap = /dev/sda7
