Multiple boot USB Stick
« on: February 17, 2013, 04:51:47 pm »
I was just wondering if it is at all possible to create a dual/multi boot USB Stick with various OS's on it such as Ubuntu, Mint, Peppermint and have the option/choice of which one to try/install?

If you get stuck installing MultiSystem .. let me know.

It allows you to add ISO images to the USB stick directly (ie. without having to be unpacked and "burned") .. it even supports booting Win7 and XP CD/DVD images (obviously those can only be used for installation) .. Linux distros can be used in Live mode as well as installation media.

That's great, however - I *do* have an XP Pro install CD but not a WIN7 one, any ideas on how I can obtain one? as I'd like to see if I can get to grips with WIN7 as we got a Toshiba lappy with a dead HD in it and was going to get it fixed and make it a dual/multi boot with Ubuntu/XP/WIN7/other.

Buy one .. you don't expect me to condone or discuss piracy do you ?

[EDIT]

This is a Linux forum .. so a bit of an odd question really .. I was pointing out it *could* be done, not offering to help with Windows.

I charge for Windows assistance ;)

That's what I was asking, 'is the only way I can get one is from a shop'

Iíve downloaded the multi boot iso and I'm reading some mention of something called 'plop'
Do I need to download it or just 'burn' multi boot to the USB?

Install and run the application .. if you need to add the XP iso .. it should download/install plop for you.

IIRC, PLoP is only necessary for windows images .. but it installs it for you anyway.

No .. add the repo, then install MultiSystem on your Linux PC (not to a CD/DVD)

First make sure zenity and xterm are installed:
Code: [Select]
 sudo apt-get install zenity xterm

Then add the MultiSystem repo and key, then install multisystem .. by running:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-add-repository 'deb http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot all main'
then
Code: [Select]
wget -qO  - http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/multisystem.asc | sudo apt-key add -
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install multisystem

You'll then find MultiSystem in your menus somewhere

Also, read the link in my last response.

Sorry, from how I understood it on the site you pointed me to was that I downloaded the .ISO and put it on the USB Stick!
