I know it must seem that i am a bit thick!  :-[ :-[ :-[
I clearly am at fault for not providing enough information and apologise.

I do not have wired broadband hence.....no router.   I have a wireless or usb mobile tethered device which supplies me with (pretty quick) internet service.  At the moment my mobile is tethered by usb.

Sorry if you have wasted time on this.

If your printer supports "ad-hock" mode, it may still be possible to get a wireless connection .. but it will probably be easier just to plug it in by USB.

Does it work through USB now ?

Have you still got an old wireless router ?

Yes. it works but I have little control over things like ink levels and quality.  To be honest I can probally deal with the usb side of things for the printer.  The scanner is another thing though.  I cant get simple scan or Xsane to recognise it.

Hello, I don't know whether anyone can help me. I've just bought same printer as OP and am not Linux-savvy enough to get it to work it seems.

I have installed the relevant drivers (epson-inkjet-printer-201201w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_i386.deb) through the Software Centre but am now at a loss as to what to do next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated (I know how annoying explaining things to noobs can be - I do it on a daily basis on a different subject so apologies!)

Make sure your printer is attached amd switched on

In your web browser click this link:
http://localhost:631

Then click the "Administration" tab

If at any time you're prompted for a username and password .. it wants you Linux username and password.

Click the "Find new printers" button.

Give the printer an name.

And choose the correct make and model.

Don't worry about that, Mark enjoys it, I should know I annoy him all the time :)
If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs, then you're not quite grasping the situation
