We may need to comment out (or change the addresses of) the

allow-hotplug eth0

line (section) in /etc/network/interfaces

to stop it automagically coming up every boot, and messing up wireless again.

So it aint quite solved yet

I did as you suggested and commented out "Allow-hotplug eth0 in the /etc/network/interfaces file and it's working fine,

There are still some problems downloading certain services from within the web gui and mounting or creating one particular volume (that happens to have a Windows & Linux partition on it) I may have to wipe these partitions first but I'm not sure how to do that in the NAS terminal, alternatively I suppose I can run any live Linux disc on the NAS and use gparted, but so far I haven't had a lot of time to spend with it so I'll mess around with it tonight and let you know if I have any problems, I also installed puTTY on my pc so I can now log into the NAS via ssh which should make things easier (one keyboard)

We should be able to mount the partitions through fstab .. or you can do as you suggest .. you know where to come if you require assistance

Yes I've tested that and it works perfectly,

So now I can work inside the web GUI  although I'm having many issues (mounting/sharing etc), but I can't keep coming on here pestering people to help me with things that I probably shouldn't be getting involved with in the first place, so I'll try to figure out what I can myself and perhaps start a new thread with any problems I can't figure out.
