you appear to have added the mate repos for BOTH 12.04 and 12.10

Run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Find the 2 lines near the bottom that read

deb http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu quantal main
deb-src http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu quantal main

and REMOVE them.

SAVE the file and close gedit.

back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update

Now try:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install mate-core
and
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment

ANY errors .. post them.

So log off, and choose MATE as the session from the login screen.

Cant really tell as I think my system is a little foobar.
ATM I am trying to get Mint MATE installed on that Multisystem book maker, you remember, the French one that you can install multiple systems on a USB.
I can't remember exactly how to do it..

Don't use Multisystem .. it doesn't allow persistence.

[EDIT]

As I said .. in Ubuntu install usb-creator-gtk
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install usb-creator-gtk

Then look for "Startup Disk Creator" in your menus

It's got it on the options. I've got the latest version, unless you mean they haven't fixed it if it's a bug.

I haven't used it for a while .. it didn't do persistence when I last used it.

But I'd still use Ubuntu's startup disk creator .. see the edit in my last posting

I've had a look at the contents of the USB dive and it looks like it's gone and put it on somehow, must be automatic?
I'll give it a gi and if it doesnít work, I'll try the Startup Disk Creator.

I'll let you know how it goes.

The multi boot didnít boot lol, system couldnít 'see' the USB Stick so I am just testing the Startup Disk Creator as I've just put it on the USB.

Gonna have to put everything on hold as I've just opened my tower up and the CPU heatsink fell off :o as the coolant stuff looks like its dried up!!!

I was going to put a Hd in I remembered I've still got and put stuff I still want on it but now I need to get the PC to a computer shop and get some heatsink coolant, and then hopefully it will be all OK.
