Got it fixed ;D
Things are looking great...
Took it to a local computer shop and found out the Heatsink housing was completely broken :o
Before, the CPU temp was around 57C. Now it's levelled off at 30C, That alone will improver performance.

Heh .. I could have told you that when you said the heatsink "fell off" ;)

They're normally a bit*h to get off .. even when you want to.

Okiedokey... Having another bash at trying to get the cursor size enlarged.

I have followed the video that Emegra posted but I am only able to get the mouse pointer/cursor size enlarged while used in applications and not the desktop.
I have got Configuration Editor and dconf Editor installed, is there a possibility that they are causing a conflict and so not letting it work properly even though they are both showing the same value?

We have these setups
Lappy
11.10
Gnome Classic
Configuration Editor and dconf Editor installed

Desktop
12.04
Gnome Classic
Configuration Editor and dconf Editor installed

Iíve downloaded the Large Mouse Cursors theme but donít know what to do with it/where to put it?
I'm testing it on the lappy first.

BTW, I've scrapped using the VM as I was having sooo much trouble trying to install Win7 (recovery & BSOD's) I gave up. But the VM is STILL installed.

Hi Pooky

I had the same problem, here's how I got round it

Quote
I installed a cursor theme to my own PC a while ago (Sputnik) and I noticed that I only had that cursor inside open applications and it reverted back to the standard cursor (DMZ-White) on the desktop,

I tried to find a way to make Sputnik the default but nothing i did worked, eventually I opened up usr/share/icons/DMZ-White  changed the cursors folder name to cursors.original then pasted the cursors folder from the  Sputnik folder into that directory, so now I have the Sputnik cursor all the time even on the login screen.

Possibly Mark or some of the more knowledgable guys on here will have a better way to do it but that worked for me

Good Luck

Graeme

I'm not that confident installing the themes, I don't know how to?

When you download a theme all you have to do is extract it to /usr/share/icons, then you will have the option to use that theme under "customise look and feel"

any problems come back and post here

I was just going to say I am unable to see any themes, but I just remembered Mark saying something earlier in this thread about themes and Gnome Classic unable to display them.

So, it looks like I can't use themes in current DTE, so I will have to either put up with it the way it is or suffer with the fact that we will have to endure the crappy icons on the left if we want the larger icon size on the desktop...

We will have to move over to Unity  :o :-[

I don't know much about Gnome Classic as I've never used it, I'm using peppermint with LXDE.

From your screen shot it looks like your current cursor theme is set to DMZ Black, what i'm suggesting doesn't actually change the theme, what it does is change your current cursor theme (DMZ Black) to appear differently.

So for example in order for me to have the Sputnik cursor as default I simply replaced the cursor folder within the /usr/share/icons/DMZ Black with the cursor folder from the Sputnik Theme folder and renamed  /usr/share/icons/DMZ Black/cursor to /usr/share/icons/DMZ Black/cursor.original.

I'm sorry if I'm not explaining this well, I'm going out shortly so I'm short of time and rushing it a bit but if you want a detailed step by step let me know and I'll try to be clearer

I've switched to Unity on the lappy but for some reason, the icons on the left have gone. I'm currently back in Gnome writing this.
How do I get them back, the Unity lens and all that...

What do you mean thee icons have gone ? .. do you mean the launcher bar doesn't slide out, or do you mean it's empty when it does slide out ?

Even if you put the cursor to the left of screen and keep rolling the mouse left ?

Does it slide out if you hit the "Super" key (Windows key) ?

Nope, it doesn't slide out, I've got 'File Edit View Go bookmarks Help' at the top too, if that's anything of an indicator to whats happened!

What happens if you select File>Close

Then open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
unity --reset

Have you install CCSM ? .. have you enabled the "Unity" plugin ?

What happens if you hit the "Super" key ?

[EDIT]

One last question .. what the heck is this to do with a topic about resizing the mouse pointer ?

Resizing the mouse pointer won't work in Gnome so I switched to Unity and got problems

There is no 'File > Close'
Only File
New Window >
Create New Folder
Create New Document
Connect To Server

Whats CCSM
And, no, the Super key doesn't do anything...
