Problem Solved! Thank you so much.
Finally today managed to get into the desktop and remove the add-on graphics card.
As you can see from the attached pic it is "fried" (The only gaming we do is on cbeebies so a bit surprised to see it burnt out)!
Anyway the computer is up and running again with no sign of distortion so am now very chuffed and grateful for your help (again).
