Actually it's quite easy as long as you have that udev rule .. I'll summarise it tomorrow :)

A lot of that was undoing earlier attempts.

Congrats.
Now you just left with the task of summarising the simple task of getting it all working

I wasn't blaming you .. some of it was things we had you try earlier.

The topic grew that long it was hard to remember what we'd altered.

I know you weren't I was only joking, :)

The thing is the first tutorial I looked at kinda led me into a false sense of security because it made it look simple, but the reality is very different, it's not simple at all and definitely not something an average user like myself can be expected to do without expert help

Many thanks

Graeme

Actually the first tutorial is probably fine for MOST scanners .. it was just that Peppermint requires xinetd installing (I think Ubuntu already has it), and the only other thing was getting the udev rule right for your scanner (probably not needed for MOST scanners .. at least HP AiO's)

Though quite why it says to uncomment:-
 #data_portrange = 10000 - 10100
god only knows  ::)

Still .. I've learned sommat here too :)

All's well that ends well
let me know if you write a step by step because no doubt I'll need to refer to it in the not too distant future

or better still write a GUI :)

Goodnight and thanks again :)

You're welcome .. I'll write it up tomorrow, after I check whether xinetd is even necessary.

G'Night.
