Can you tell us the make/model of your printer ?

I'm not sure if I've explained that very well (I'm not very good at this) so if you're unsure please ask and I'll try to be clearer

Good luck

Graeme

I have an Epson Stylus DX4400...I just used it to print up the installation instructions (don't know if that means I have the drivers on Ubunto or Ubunto is reading them from WIN)

BTW....you have explained things very well. I know little tech speak so I need all the translations you can throw at me lol

Well If you printed that from Ubuntu then the driver is already installed in Ubuntu so you're good to go

during the install process you'll be asked if you want to "install alongside windows" or "use the entire disk", choose "use entire disk" this will wipe the windows partition and set up the rest of the disk for Ubuntu, the rest I'm sure you'll find is self explanatory

If you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask

hopefully your next post will come from your newly installed Ubuntu (windows free ) PC :)

Good luck

Graeme

Rest assured Ubuntu is NOT using your Windows printer drivers .. so if it's printing, then (as Emegra says) the drivers must be included in Ubuntu by default :)

Ubuntu will not be using ANYTHING from the Windows partition by default .. in fact the Windows partition won't even be mounted until you access it .. so if Ubuntu is working to your satisfaction, you're "good to go".

Thanks for that reply...that's a relief. I think I might be getting to understand the partitioning thing.

I'll know better what is going on next time I come on-line.

Am I a bit 'sad' for getting excited about messing about with my lovely new OS???

Hel no.
There's nothing more fun than playing with different OS's.
I run Ubuntu and Mint at home, XP at work and even an old Win 3.1 interface for one application. Just recently I have also been reliving my youth with a BBC B+.
I even can't help playing with my Android Phone, currently switching between 6 different launchers all overlaid with unity on the right and GYF on the left.

Panic over...I wish I knew what I had just done...I would be able to show someone else.

I followed the instructions on the posted bloggy thing...but I must have tried to boot Ubunto in a silly way the first time.

I also managed to hold a telephone conversation with my sister, talking about my mum and Alzheimer's at the same time...I must pay attention in future
