Does anyone know of Linux courses in Bournemouth area ?. Preferably evening course for novices to cover basic use and terminal commands.

Maybe you could join the mailing list of the Dorset LUG (Linux User Group) and ask them:
http://dorset.lug.org.uk/wiki/
They are having their next meeting at the "The Broadway" pub in Bournmouth on the 4th June 2013 at 8:00pm:
http://dorset.lug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=meetings:pub

or try on their IRC channel:
http://client00.chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.blitzed.org&channel=%23dorset

or the #bunix channel (Bournmouth Uni IRC channel):
http://client00.chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.blitzed.org&channel=%23bunix
