Tomtom Home
« on: May 26, 2013, 03:26:15 pm »
Has anyone tried to connect their tomtom XXL or other to Tomtom home on Linux Ubuntu or any other make ?. I'm not interest in emulators just Linux only. Thats if there is a Linux version.

Tomtom don't do a Linux native version of "Home" .. and according to their forum, they have no intention of doing one.

See moz1959's reply here:

And although you're supposed to be able to run it under wine I can't seem to get it working.

SGS 2 and Tapatalk are awesome.

Yet another case of a company using Linux on their devices, then only supporting Windows  ::)

There is pyTOMTOM in launchpad:
https://launchpad.net/pytomtom

Dunno if it's any good though.

Whilst trying to install pytomtom from the software centre I got this message,

Thing is, it means nothing to me.
Can we do anything about it, would the problem still exist if I used the tar.biz download, as always any help is much appreciated.

If is doesn't run in Wine and pyTomTom don't work then its no good buying a TomTom if you can't update it. You would have to buy a cheap notebook with USB that has windows on it just for Tomtom.  Unless you have a desktop computer with interchangeable caddies for different OS's.

Or a simple dual boot system would suffice :)

If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs, then you're not quite grasping the situation

Or Windows in a VM :)

Dude .. you seem to have a massive caddy fetish thing going on there ;)

Caddies (or more than 1 HDD) are NOT necessary to have more than one OS on a PC.
