Let's try a full system update.

Can you connect to your router with an ethernet cable <-- you'll need to, as wireless won't be set up yet.

Then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get upgrade
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

After those complete .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo shutdown -P now
to power off the netbook.

Now fire it up again .. any change ?

No. I am out.  I have linked my mobile via  usb wifi mode but it cant see it.
Also I only have wifi at home via my mobile.

I was wondering.  In another post I replied to Emegra that I had updated Peppermint 4 live no problems.  I wonder if there nay have been a corruption somewhere.
I have the iso on a disk with me. Do you think I should re do the usb live install?

Try this .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo updatedb
then
Code: [Select]
locate modules.dep.bin

is there any output ?

ifr so, screenshot it

I'm hoping modules.dep.bin will be liisted for the kernel that came with the LiveCD

3.8.0-23

??

Try this .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo depmod -a

after that completes ..
Code: [Select]
sudo updatedb
then
Code: [Select]
locate modules.dep.bin

is there now one listed for the 3.8.0-25 kernel ?

If there is .. shutdown the PC with:
sudo shutdown -P now
then turn it back on again .. and see if it works now.

Why do people disappear right when we're close to a solution ? <-- only kiddin ;)

For now .. you should be able to boot by turning on the NC10, then immediately hitting and holding the "Shift" key.

Eventually you will be presented with the GRUB menu

hit the down arrow key to select "Advanced options for Peppermint" and hit enter.

select the 3.8.0-23 kernel (probably the top option)

and hit enter to boot.

That will boot you into the original kernel which seems to be OK.

We'll fix 3.8.0-25 when you're ready.

Ok. So I re-installed Peppermint and went into grub and changed the Kernel. Bingo! Did the job. Thank you very much Mark.

I'm pretty sure that either

a) installing from a LiveCD/LiveUSB that you HAVEN'T updated.

or

b) running
Code: [Select]
sudo depmod -a

would have fixed the newer kernel.

Worst case scenario .. boot the original kernel .. remove the 3.8.0-25 kernel .. run a system update to pick up the new kernel again ;)

OK. Ran system update. Cured the problem.  :)

EXCEPT.  I got this error:

Update Information

Failure to download extra files
flashplugin-installer
could not be downloaded

Strange this also happened on my panic installation of Lubuntu the other day.

sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
