I'd found the advice referred to above, but I'm not sure what I need to do to follow it I entered sudo gedit gnome-wacom-panel.desktop and arrived at a blank gedit screen.  How do I proceed from there?  Sorry to be so dense!

Glad to hear you got it sorted :)

And thanks for confirming I was on the right track, and just needed the device name correcting.

Yes, it was about getting the device name right. But ( there's always a but) the system isn't retaining the set up.  If it hibernates, it reverts to the standard setting.  Any clue how to proceed with that?

Does rebooting also mean you have to re-apply the xsetwacom settings ?

Yes - I found that the settings need reapplied after a reboot as well.

Try this .. edit the 50-wacom.conf file:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf

The top section should read something like:-

Code: [Select]
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Wacom class"
MatchProduct "Wacom|WACOM|Hanwang|PTK-540WL|ISD-V4"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "wacom"
EndSection

Make it read:-

Code: [Select]
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Wacom class"
MatchProduct "Wacom|WACOM|Hanwang|PTK-540WL|ISD-V4"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "wacom"
Option "Rotate" "HALF"
EndSection

SAVE the file.
