If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs, then you're not quite grasping the situation

Mine IS a later version....

Code: [Select]
mark@AA1-Blue ~ $ dpkg -l | grep pcmanfm
ii  pcmanfm                              1.1.2+bzr973+201309081728~ubuntu13.04.1     i386         extremely fast and lightweight file manager

Now I'm not saying this is definitely why I've been unable to reproduce the crash .. just throwing it out there ;)

Ok well I've now posted the output from Linux2 and it looks like the same version as Linux1 if I remember correctly we installed your version to Chloes PC when we were have problems with Docky (not that that's relevant just thought I'd add that).

Do you think it would be worthwhile trying your version ?

Many thanks

Graeme

Can't hurt, and can be removed if necessary:
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mark-pcnetspec/pcmanfm
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get upgrade
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
then log off/on or reboot.

to remove:
Code: [Select]
sudo ppa-purge ppa:mark-pcnetspec/pcmanfm
and log off/on.

Be aware, you'll have to recreate any bookmarks, as the new version stores them in a different place.

I never bother with "My Computer", all mounted file systems should be in the left hand column of PCManFM

If not, just bookmark the mount point, and call it whatever you want

PCManFM has always hod one problem or another .. so it's kinda "pick your problem"  :o

May be worth a reboot before testing, to make sure the desktop wallpaper is loaded through the new version (and not just the file manager).

Good luck :)

Well I've only left it on overnight twice ..so not a great test.

Just as a matter of interest what's the contents of:
Code: [Select]
gedit /.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml
?

I think I've found the problem or at least the cause of the problem, I had the " nice big clock" from the Effects tab running, I removed it last night and this morning the desktop was fine.

I'm not sure if you had the clock running but I'm guessing you didn't which could explain why my desktop was crashing and yours wasn't

It would be interesting to confirm if this is the cause, would it be possible for you to run the clock overnight to see what happens ?

Many thanks
