Java & Javascript not working [SOLVED]
« on: October 26, 2013, 06:38:19 pm »
I am running Peppermint 3 on a Dell Latitude 505.
I noticed today that some websites viewed on Firefox 24 have lost some functionality and one or two told me that Java/script was not enabled.
The package manager has a long list of Java-related files shown as installed (not that I understand their meaning!).
Chromium is working fine but I prefer Firefox.
I would be grateful, as usual, for advice.

Hi Mark.
No, it's not there.
Listed are:  Shockwave Flash, Quicktime, windows media, Divex Browser, Realplayer 9 and gecko-mediaplayer.

I had already searched the Add-on library for Java but only QuickJava was listed. I installed it but that didn't solve my problem.  and JavaScript was  not listed.

Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep icedtea
don't post it as an attachment ... post it inline in your next posting

The first two were a bit long, I thought, for posting; hence the attachments.
Here the new output:

My apologies:  I assumed that because it wasn't listed it would not be functioning, so got on with some other work.  No patience, you see!
The websites of interest now work in Firefox - thank you.

During my experiments before trying the Forum, I installed QuickJava which has functions that I don't understand, with icons that just clutter up the screen.  I have a feeling that it is simply a method of controlling different aspects of the installed Java.
Can I delete it? or am I now relying on it?
