Can you run:
sudo updatedb
then post the output from
Code: [Select]
locate xorg.conf

as catalyst doesn't apper to have created one.

Hi ,

Spent all morning playing same (freshly recorded) clip on Zorin. Whether I select VLC Sm player, or Videos, the play back is not smooth. Certainly not unwatchable, but not smooth. On playing same clip in Win 7 laptop   (i3 and 6gb) using VLC, Media player and Media player classic the results are smooth as silk.

Now, I really want to use a Linux base as, short of the video editing, I have found all I want to do from a second computer.

This is new build with AMD A10k proc with inbuilt HD radeon grahics and 8gb fast 2100 ram so I'm not thinking it's the processing power of machine !

Prior to install of Zorin, Camtasia ran fine on the machine with Win 8 trial and all playback using above progs. was smooth.

Can I install another Linux to run alongside Zorin like Windows dual boot ?

Thanks for your input.

Seems to me this is JUST a driver issue .. you STILL don't have an xorg.conf file in the right location.

is there an option in the catalyst control center to create one .. or "save settings" or similar ?

if not, we'll try manually creating one.

OK, what happens if you run:
Code: [Select]
sudo aticonfig --initial -f
then what's the output from
Code: [Select]
ls -al /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I'm going to post a link here that it may be a good idea to reed before you reboot .. specially the bit on what to do if you get a black screen after rebooting

OK, let's try this a different way

See here:
http://www.noobslab.com/2013/04/install-ati-amd-catalyst-drivers-in.html

do you think you could do that, or do you require help ?

if you need assistance, please post the output from:
Code: [Select]
uname -a
so we can see if you're running 32 or 64bit

uname -a

Seems a wee bit of a nightmare. I could just spend 70 for win 8 and it will work. People have been good enough to tolerate this for 39 posts and I am still no farther on.

Would like to use Linux but now being less convinced.

MS may suck but at least it works !!

That's a matter of opinion ;)

If the ATI drivers weren't loading properly in Windows, would you blame M$ or ATI .. and would you give up and buy a Mac, or try to figure where the problem is ?

The ATI drivers seem to work for most other people .. though I must admit their installation method leaves a lot to be desired.

Hi skronk

if you paste the code

Code: [Select]
uname -a

into your terminal and post the output maybe we can make some progress

Ok it looks like you're running the 64 bit version, and I think Mark was guiding you towards following the instructions on the link he posted here

http://www.noobslab.com/2013/04/install-ati-amd-catalyst-drivers-in.html

but it would be better to wait and take your instructions from him at this point

also when posting terminal output back here it's much easier to simply copy and paste from your terminal directly here instead of attaching a screenshot and to make it easier to understand you can code wrap it by highlighting it and clicking on the # icon at the top of the text box
