Doesn't matter how you download it as long as you transfer it to the Windows PC .. it would be too hard to use Linpus Lite to create the LiveUSB .. it'd be easy in peppermint, but.....

For anyone else following this....

nathanm1991 informs me by PM that the LiveUSB created OK, but is listed in the boot device selection screen as a USB FDD rather than a USB HDD .. so there's no option but to use a different USB stick.

For some reason the AA1 is sensitive to which USB sticks it "likes" .. seeing some as a USB Floppy Disk Drive rather than a Hard Disk Drive.

 Interesting.

Never had a problem using USB sticks between different machines.

It's the Acer Aspire One .. not so much the USB stick.

For some reason the AA1 BIOS just doesn't "like" some USB sticks .. they work fine for storage, but refuse to be bootable.

[EDIT]

Actually if you 'dd' an isohybrid image to them they'll usually work .. but the Peppermint 3 ISO wasn't an isohybrid image, and you can't 'dd' in Windows.

I've had similar issues with USB sticks before, now I tend to just use a DVD-RW to avoid any issues
(obviously not applicable to netbooks :()

LiveCD's are GREAT for recovery and as an installation media .. not so good (as a LiveUSB with persistence) in the "test drive" role.

And yeah, there's also the netbook/no optical drive issue :)

On other PC's I've obviously had the "the PC won't boot from LiveUSB/removable media at all" issue .. but only (so far) on the AA1 have I had the issue where it will boot "some" sticks but not others, seeing some as FDD's and others as HDD's .. it's just odd like that  :o

But that's just the crazy a** world of computers we live in.....
