My guess is for some reason it's being replaced by a backup, when you reboot.

Can you send the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo find / -name group-app.xml
and
Code: [Select]
ls -al /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop

No don't change the other lines .. the "!--" and "--" mean the line has effectively been commented out (the line is ignored).

Here's the output for "sudo find / -name group-app.xml":

find: /proc/5275: No such file or directory
/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml
/home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml
/mnt/home/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml
/root/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml
/usr/share/pixmaps/group-app.xml

and for "ls -al /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop":

total 44
drwxr--r--  2 user user 4096 2012-08-25 10:29 .
drwxrwxr-x 10 user user 4096 2008-06-09 14:07 ..
-rw-rw-r--  1 user user 9430 2012-08-25 14:00 group-app.xml
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 9430 2012-03-18 00:38 group-app.xml.backup
-rw-rw-r--  1 user user 9494 2012-08-25 10:29 group-app.xml.broken

Thanks Mark.

I would, but on rebooting after my last post the bottom panel disappeared, and a square one appeared on the top left corner, completely empty (no wifi, power or charging icons) apart from a round icon similar to the settings one (if you click on it, nothing happens though). Going on the settings (right bottom-ish corner) the network center doesn't even open, and of course the Browser doesn't work either. Sorry, any suggestion how to bring back the panel (and the network connection)? I'm so close to throw the aa1 from the window...

OK, we can probably get you back to defaults .. but you will loose any menu configuration changes you've applied.

if you want to do this .. hit Alt+F2 .. in the dialog box that appears, enter terminal and hit Enter (to open a terminal).

in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
mv -v /home/user/.config/xfce4 /home/user/.config/xfce4.old
then
Code: [Select]
mv -v /home/user/.config/xfce4-session /home/user/.config/xfce4-session.old

Then REBOOT.

Did that now, it didn't change anything. Thanks to xfce4-panel -a" I managed to bring back the panel and SOME icons (xfce, volume, clock and power off) but the wifi icon I can't find it anywhere, or the battery level icon. Is there a command to bring them back? Or to make the network center work?

See here:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=4162.msg29852#msg29852

Hopefully that will fix your wifi .. but be prepared to have to re-enter your network settings.

I know I keep mentioning it, but you do realise that unless these issues are being caused by a failing SSD you could have installed PeppermintOS 5 times over by now ? .. and have a much better system for it ;)

Linpus Lite was IMHO a criminal choice for the AA1, that limits its potential, and is a heavily customised Linux distribution that Acer never had any intention of supporting.

The problem is, with any other Linux distribution I could load it into a virtual machine, and try to replicate your issue .. but Linpus Lite cannot be run from a virtual machine.

You're most welcome .. thanks for letting me know it helped. :)

I've been told the latest versions of Firefox also work well on the AA1 .. it was just Firefox 8/9 that had an issue for some reason.

Fantastic help on this one! I gave my old Aspire One to my granddaughter and, of course, she was disappointed when it asked for the Flash update which didn't work. I searched everywhere for help until I found this post. Not only did it do the trick, it was extremely easy to follow and apply. Thank you so much - happy Granddad and happy Granddaughter.  ;D  ;D

Hurrah!.
At last some instructions for updating FF2 to FF7 that really work.
I am so grateful but i need more. FF7 is working well but some web sites are informing me that FF needs updating. I believe that the latest version of FF is 20. Are there any instructions to update from FF7 upwards?. Can these instructions be used by changing the filenames and paths etc?.
I find 'Linpus' frustrating. Surely if they can come up with updates for FF from 2, 3 4,5 6,7 etc someone could write some kind of script to do the update with less worry.
Anyway, I, for one, am grateful for any info.

^^O^^

Sorry it took so long to "allow" your first posting .. somehow I missed this one  :-[

Anyway .. my first peice of advice would be to ditch Linpus Lite in favour of Peppermint .. which has easy access to all the Ubuntu software, but is MUCH lighter on system resources .. I've found it the best fit for an AA1 :)

There's a tutorial on this site for installing Peppermint 3 here:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=10313.0

But if you must stick with Linpus Lite, we can have a go at installing the latest firefox if you want .. there was a problem with Firefox 8 on Linpus (which is why the tutorial stopped at v7), but someone told me versions AFTER 8 were OK .. so if you wanna give it a shot, let me know.

Seriously though you'd be better off with Peppermint 3

Well that *looks* like it's trying to install the updates from  the archived Fedora Core 8 repos .. If you installed them, I couldn't guarantee what the results would be .. it might break Linpus Lite altogether.

What are you trying to do ? .. update Firefox ?
