Persistance pays off - I am now fully peppermint with no more Windows - Its bliss and it works. The internet hasnt disconnected (or should I say the computer hasnt disconnected from the internet). and above all its damn quick

I have stopped enjoying Peppermint for a minute or two as I only get the blue screen of death - which I only every associated with Microsoft!!!

It was most probably my fault for messing around with the res too much - it never likes to fit the screen properly when you first start up. I will get that sorted tonight - I hope

I am however having problems finding my Belkin N1 USB. I have loaded the software through Wine but theres something missing somewhere. When Im back up and running I will get some more details and see if anyone else has had the same problems.

Otherwise the OS is brilliant!! my computer is fast, the music, games etc that come with/ download for free are excellent!!!

Can you post the exact model of wireless adapter (Belkin F5Dxxxx or similar) .. and the output from these commands:

The screen is no longer blue but when it starts up it is always slightly too high - so the top of the screen is cut off - its not a major issue but it does bother me. I dont know whether its the puter or the TV/monitor - the monitor is a Toshiba LCD colour tv model 198V501B

I'm "kind of" online .. using an O2 mobile dongle (E160) which works with Ubuntu/Peppermint out of the box but sucks big style .. 4 hours to download a 28.5mb file last night .. so don't expect fast responses, it's nearly unusable even though it says it has a "Good" connection (same in Windows) .. it also used 1.1gb f my data allowance to download that file

Anyway, it doesn't look like your USB wireless device is being recognised as a wireless network adapter at all, though it IS being seen by the system .. looking for a solution now .. though don't expect me to be quick

thanks for coming back Mark - Good luck with the dongle.

The lil blue light doesnt come on when I plug it in - Where normally it does as this shows that it has power. I have tried it in another computer and it works. I have tried it in various USB holes in my computer and tried simply searching for any recognition of something plugged in to no avail.

Would it be simpler to just by something else?

You could try installing usb-modeswitch from the repos and then plug it in and check dmesg an lsusb

Maybe .. it seems like there are no native Linux drivers for the F5D8051, but it also seems a lot of people have had luck with ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers .. so lets try that first.

First you're going to need to make sure ndisgtk is installed:

Then you'll need a copy of the Windows drivers.

Start up ndisgtk .. either by starting "Windows Wireless Drivers" from the menu's, or by running this command in a terminal:

gksudo ndisgtk

Click "Install New Driver" .. and point it at the netmw245 (or netmw24c) file in the Windows drivers.

As the F5D8051 is not a ZeroCD device, I doubt if usb-mdeswitch wil help .. I think SeZo may have been confused by the mention of a USB mobile dongle.

No, you won't need it installed, but you WILL need an unpacked copy of it on the Linux PC so you can point ndisgtk at the file.
