Re: Installing PEAK 138508AGPK DVB-T Digital TV Hybrid PCI Card
« Reply #90 on: July 09, 2012, 07:31:38 pm »
Having another bash at my TV Card. I have opened Terminal as root and I am having a bit more success.
I have found I can actually get it to scan channels now as before I was opening Terminal as normal and it was not letting me scan channels.
The only problem is that TVTime is coming up as showing No Signal but I have got it connected to my Video recorder which has my TiVo box connected to it so it is getting a signal and I am also playing a video so it will get either of the signals.
At the moment I am at a loss where to begin???

Amazingly, I've managed to get my TV Card working with TVTime but now theres no sound!
I typed
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get --purge remove tvtime
and it cleared what I was having problems with before - some config file that wouldn’t let me set the region e.g. Europe/USA etc...

Well, anyway, now I have no sound...

Have you connected the TV/Capture card to the soundcard ?

Ive lost it now

I was looking through other sites and saw this http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/ubuntu10-10-there-is-no-volume-in-tvtime-838048/
Code: [Select]
tvtime-configure --device=/dev/video1 --mixer=/proc/asound/EasyALSA1:monitor

so I tried it and lost picture, I think I changed EasyALSA1 to SAA7134.
Any idea how I can fix it?

Strangely it works through VLC with these settings (See screenshot) INCLUDING AUDIO!!!
But saying that, TVTime DOES NOT RECORD so I can forget that program and use VLC to record.
What I don't understand is I did NOTHING different to last time with either TVTime OR VLC, you can see what settings I 'tweaked' in VLC and ONLY them, so WHAT id different THIS TIME?

Go to View
Put tick by Advanced Controls
Buttonbar appears at the bottom with record button on it :)

Thanks Sezo, sorry for asking what is a simple question but I hardly ever use VLC.

Now, since using VLC, I just tried using TVTime again and got;
'frames too short from uvcvideo'

and then tried VLC and got
'Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'v4l2:///dev/video1'. Check the log for details.
'

Where can I find the log or have you an idea what I can do to fix the problem?

Here's another puzzling find.
Check out the screenshot in this post http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=9778.75
and then the attached screenshot... I didn’t do anything to change it, also, I remember seeing another name which I think was Meridon or something similar.

I’ve set the path for VLC to write logs but there’s nothing there?
Did a bit of searching and sorted it
I got this;
-- logger module started --
main: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
main error: open of `v4l2:///dev/video1' failed
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
v4l2 error: cannot set standard 0x10: Invalid argument
main error: open of `v4l2:///dev/video1' failed
-- logger module stopped --

Doesn’t tell me much!

main error: open of `v4l2:///dev/video1' failed

It tells you that your card is not mapped to /dev/video1
Pluging in your USB camera could have changed the order

Try this to get the correct location:
Code: [Select]
v4l-conf

And this to get available TV standards for the card:
Code: [Select]
v4l2-ctl --list-standards
