What happens if you open a terminal and enter:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
then hit enter, and your password.

Here's the problem...

We can TRY towork on your sound issue if you want, but I think you still have bigger problems than that... originally one of your postings said apt and dpkg weren't installed, well apt and dpkg are what the system uses for package management, so without them you will not be able to install anything.

I think you need to sort those issues out before the sound drivers... but the choice is yours.

I tryed the previous commands with returned error

chroot: failed to run command bin/bash no such fie or directory

No I don't want you to boot to the LiveCD...

Just boot without the CD and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

and tell me what happens.

If it installed updates, apt and dpkg must be working...

Now to the sound card then... can you send the output from these 4 commands entered into a terminal:

Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C multimedia
and
Code: [Select]
sudo aplay -l
and
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
and
Code: [Select]
lsmod | grep snd

NO... you only sent the output from 2 of these 4 commands -

Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C multimedia
and
Code: [Select]
sudo aplay -l
and
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
and
Code: [Select]
lsmod | grep snd

So I still need the output from:

Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C multimedia
and
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

2 questions...

a) If this is a laptop... what is the make/model ?

b) is this the same PC where we dealt with the sound issue here:

Run this command:
Code: [Select]
gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

when gedit opens, see if there is a line that reads:

options snd-hda-intel model=ref

towards the bottom, and let me know.

OK, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

When gedit opens, add a NEW LINE at the bottom that reads:

options snd-hda-intel model=ref

SAVE the file, and exit gedit.

Now run:
Code: [Select]
sudo alsa force-reload

is your sound now working ?
