Post by: Mark Greaves (PCNetSpec) on May 31, 2015, 02:01:25 pm
Team Peppermint are pleased to announce Peppermint Six has been released a day early...

The main Peppermint website is now live, so go get it and let the fun begin :)
http://peppermintos.com/ (http://peppermintos.com/)

There's a list of the major changes here:
http://peppermintos.com/2015/05/peppermint-six-is-here/ (http://peppermintos.com/2015/05/peppermint-six-is-here/)
and screenshots here:

The torrent links aren't active yet, but will be as soon as we get the torrents from OSST .. the direct download links are active, but please be aware they may slow down considerably under the strain for the next few days.

Anyway .. Hope you like it, and be sure to try out the new Peppermix-Dark theme.

Shane Remington, COO of Peppermint, states, “I want to take this opportunity to thank Mark Greaves who stepped up and produced most of what you see here in Peppermint Six. Mark is now playing a major role here at Peppermint by leading the development team. I think you will be impressed what he and the others have put together in Peppermint Six.”

Peppermint 5 was superb but if Peppermint 6 is "better" well wow!!

Well done to Mark not just for P6 but for all the help he puts out too.

Looking forward to trying it soon.

Hi Mark,
I installed Peppermint 6 last night and I am very happy with the default look (so far  ;))
I found Peppermint Control Center (sic) in the usual place and disabled the Touchpad, so all is well and I am ready to try and break summat  :)
I have a few (lot of) things to put back in various folders and I will sort that later. I have already checked my mail in 3 accounts and caught up with 2 or 3 websites that I regularly visit and all seems to be working well.
I set up this computer in the computer room last evening and have been connected via ethernet cable since then. When I used the computer after tea it dropped the internet connection (again) so I decided to move upstairs and connect via cable. I thought that would be better as I was going to install Pep ^ and download updates etc. It has worked well so I am very happy, I have the club this afternoon and off to Spain in the morning (I don't seem to have a minute these days).
My grand daughter was down last night and downloaded and printed boarding passes etc. for this trip, that is why it took so long for me to get around to installing Peppermint 6, now I have done it looks great, works great, it is great  :D Thanks very much  ;)

take care
Don W

Well the updates seem ok, firefox works and the add ons etc. If it becomes too out of date I expect you will let me know Mark? It would be a lot of work doing a new install- it took me 4 hours with you coaching me online to put Peppermint 3 on this old xp laptop!

All I need at the mo is more RAM.

I'm not even sure you *could* upgrade to Peppermint 6 .. if we put you on Peppermint 3 it was for one of two reasons

a) system specs were too low for Peppermint 6
or
b) your CPU doesn't support PAE, which is required for Peppermint 4 onwards.

Easy way to find out if it was (b), what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep flags

Peppermint 6 wasn't out when we put it on this old xp laptop Mark- that was about 2 years ago. ;)

OK, it'll support Peppermint 6 .. maybe we decided not to because of RAM limitations (?), what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
free -m
?

It wasn't due to RAM Mark- only Peppermint 3 was out when we installed it onto this laptop. ;)

I still wouldn't move to Peppermint 6 until you get some more RAM

Yeah I am happy with P3 - I don't see any reason to change unless it becomes "outdated."
