Thanks SeZo

I have done as you have suggested and have the bootchart in my home folder and it looks very impressive.
How do I make sense of it ? How can I use this to make my boot up a bit quicker ? Any ideas ?

Peppermint / peppermint 7 running slow

Hi Mark,
I noticed a thread about Ubuntu running slow and thought I was running slower than that so I ran the commands you gave.
The first 2 are ok but the third command runs to 60+ lines. I have attached the first 2

don@ldwatson ~ $ systemd-analyze time
Startup finished in 6.849s (firmware) + 10.983s (loader) + 4.157s (kernel) + 44.539s (userspace) = 1min 6.530s
don@ldwatson ~ $ systemd-analyze critical-chain
The time after the unit is active or started is printed after the "@" character.
The time the unit takes to start is printed after the "+" character.

graphical.target @44.520s
??multi-user.target @44.520s
  ??smbd.service @29.686s +377ms
    ??nmbd.service @24.829s +4.838s
      ??network-online.target @24.828s
        ??network.target @24.827s
          ??networking.service @24.002s +825ms
            ??apparmor.service @11.690s +11.749s
              ??local-fs.target @11.676s
                ??run-user-1000-gvfs.mount @43.443s
                  ??run-user-1000.mount @41.465s
                    ??local-fs-pre.target @6.485s
                      ??systemd-remount-fs.service @6.366s +119ms
                        ??system.slice @2.817s
                          ??-.slice @2.615s

Shall I attach the other 66 lines ?

No there is no way to remove the password requirement (for administrative tasks) .. if you want an insecure OS where system wide settings can be changed by anyone or any application, Windows is your best bet.

Are you still telling me that you're an "ethical" hacker .. yet security is of no concern ?

to change password, open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo passwd
you will be prompted for your current password .. then for the new password twice.
Mark can you delete this message

Mark,
I used this command to change the password on my Linux machine.

to change password, open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo passwd
you will be prompted for your current password .. then for the new password twice.
[/quote]

When I start the machine I put the new password in 4 times with no success, I then used my old password to log in ??.
Where have I gone wrong ?

Thanks Mark,
Window Manager > workspaces 2 was already set, so I went to Panel Preferences>Items and entered it below the Notification Area (I like these switches on the right hand side).
All is now well and I think I could have done this if I had looked back some of the threads that have been raised on this forum ?? Maybe not as I am a bit of a numpty

Thanks Graeme,
Carried out your latest suggestion and the printer has printed a test page.
Went upstairs and printed out a page from Writer and it worked well. Looks as if it is a success.
Thanks again

Hi Mark,
I am back with this problem with this printer.
I can not get the wireless connection to work. I had a topic here in September but I was able to use the Windoze computer to print out my sketches. I have now lost the Windoze computer and would like to establish a wireless connection with my Novatech computer running Pep 7.
Can you help ? where do I start ?

take care

General Help & Advice / Sketchup available to linux users
« on: October 12, 2016, 09:27:55 am »
Hi Mark,
I received word last night that my.sketchup was available for linux users. I have had a look and it seems to work ok. I found this was a great programme in Windoze and was sorry it could not be used on linux systems. Some people have commented that they can now dump windross as that was what they needed to run sketchup. Do you know of any problems that might crop up in using this programme ? Is there any loss of functionality ? It is a beta version and it does admit that there WILL be bugs. Personally speaking I find it great to be able to use it but I thought there may be someone who would like a heads up.
