Dear All,
Since the posts below I have not used Skype except to message.
The reason is that the talking side of Skype does not work.
When I try the "echo/sound test service" my message is
not played back to me and I am told  " something is wrong with
your audio recording settings - check your Microphone
and microphone settings"
Can someone please help me.

Many thanks for your help -
I am now using Skype (Web).

I found that when creating Skype (Web) and using Firefox Skype did not work
but when I used Chromium all was well.

Now I do not know how to put "RESOLVED"  OR "SOLVED" on this subject.

Peppermint / Peppermint 6 - unable to boot

Hi,
It is me again seeking help.
I have a 3 Acer Aspire One computers - all with Peppermint 6 - and I am very happy.

Yesterday one was shot-down when we had a power cut.
On trying to bring it up again I encountered problems and now this is what happens when I try :

on switching on i get the screen  "Acer empowering people"  and it then goes to screen which says

Intel Unid etc and detailas about patents and below is this message:

"Realtec PCI Express Fast Internet Controller series V1.15 (090224)
PXE -E61 : Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF :Exciting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

I have done CTRL ALT DELETE which takes me back to the
"ACER empowering people" screen  and pressed F12
which took me to the "Boot Screen" and there is now
only one choice :

1. NEtwork Boot : Legacy PC1 DEVICE.


I could re-install Peppermint 6 but do not want to loose all my files.

Is there a trick ?  Can any of the other of my ACER ASpire One s be of assistance ?

Peppermint / Skype needs to be upgraded

Dear All,

I have an Acer Aspire One and have had Peppermint 6 OS (32 Bit) since it was launched.

My only problem is that Skype now needs upgrading and I am told this cannot be done
because of the 32 Bit system.

What are my options ?   

Peppermint 6 OS - 64 Bit

or a more up to date Peppermint system ( 7 or above ? )

Looking through Forum - I received this reply to my query in July 2017

"Well you're out of luck then, the new Skype is 64bit ONLY I'm afraid.

That said, the new Skype Client for Linux is only a wrapper for their web client .. so if you're running Peppermint you could always just make an ICE SSB that points to https://login.skype.com/login it gives you everything the new Skype Client for Linux app does except the tray icons"

Does this still apply and if so please help me I am not literate enough to know to "make an ICE SSB etc"

I am running Peppermint 6 on my Acer Aspire one.
Today I have been advised that the Skype 4.3 is out of date from today.
I was told to run http://go.skype.com/download
Did so and tried 64.DEP and 64.REM
but I do not know what to do next.
Can anyone help, please ?

Peppermint / Unable to get past "password" stage when logging on

I have happily used Peppermint 6 on my 4 Acer Aspire One for a year.

The battery is dead so I use the mains and recently we had a power cut when I was using my computer
and since then, when I log on and get to the "password" stage it keeps returning me to the password screen.
I must mention that it does not say "incorrect password".

Is there a trick to get me in ?

I have happily used Peppermint 6 on my 4 Acer Aspire one's all of this year.

I have encountered a small problem on one of them recently and am sue that it is something stupid
that I have done.

The menu on the left hand side when I startup has now been reduced to the following :

Chromium
Software Manager
Terminal
Search
File Manager
Run
Logout

Please could someone help me get all the other choices back.

Still struggling. Think I did what you suggested above but when I try and install I get to the stage "Erase disk and install Peppermint"   
Select drive - MMC/SD card 1 (mmcblko) - 2.0 GB SD SD02G
it puts up a block with "Do you want to return to partitioner?"
Some of the partitions you created are too small etc.'

I am very happy to wipe everything clean and start again.
At the start of the installation it warned me that was what would happen
but it did not seem to be the case.

Dear Sir,
You helped me install Peppermint 6 on my Acer aspire one more that a year ago and all has gone well until recently (A few error messages mentioned space problems) so I decided to start all over again and re-install the OS. 
 
Initially, I used the "try Peppermint 6" choice but when I had an error message I decided to download the OS and over-write what was on my system.

In both cases, after starting to copy files, the following error message was shown :

"the installer encountered an error copying files to hard disk.
(Errno 28 no space left on device)
This is due to there being insufficient disk space for the install to complete on the target partition."

I look to you for guidance - again !!

Hi all helpers,

I am in again trouble with Software Updater - not space this time - I have done the clean-up suggested last time.

I have been struggling to update - tried a number of times over a few weeks - kept getting an
error message half way through the process.

Tried again today and this is the message

The package system is broken
If you are using third party repositories then disable them, since they are a common source of problems.
Now run the following command in a terminal: apt-get install -f


I tried running in the Terminal but it says:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?

Can anyone guide me.
