I am trying to find out how to add a large number of users in Ubuntu using a bash script, like for a college with over 1000 students.  I am fairly new to Ubuntu and I would really appreciate any help.

I am trying to find out how to add a large number of new users in Ubuntu and give them passwords for a college where you would have over 1000 users.  I am fairly new to Ubuntu and I need to be able to do this.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
