Hi All, I am in need of help (again).
I have a Brother MFC-J6930DW A3 Wireless Scanner/Copier/Printer that seems to have fallen out with my Linux computer running Peppermint 8 (I think, can't really remember).
I was printing today using my WIN10 computer but when I went to this Linux machine later to print it wouldn't print.
The error message was 'Could not start printer'
                                      'Please check your printer configuration'

I am at a loss and don't want to start fiddling with buttons etc. Is there anyone who could guide me as to how to get my set up working again or will I need to transfer files from my Linux machine to the Win 10 machine to get them printed ??

Hi All,
A long time since I posted here and all because I had a perfectly usable laptop and and a version of Peppermint installed. I have came through the various updates of Peppermint ( I don't know which version I have now as I can't log in ) but it all worked until about 4 days ago.
When trying to log in I would experience minor issues and I did various things and got logged in eventually. Yesterday I had a major issue and following some prompts ended at the GNU GRUB version 2.04 screen, from that I chose 'Advanced Options for Peppermint GNU Linux', at the top of the next screen was
Peppermint GNU/Linux, with Linux 4.15.0-151-generic
Peppermint GNU/Linux, with Linux 4.15.0-151-generic (recovery mode)
I choose the second option and finally got logged in again.
This morning I am having the same problem logging in but now nothing seems to work.
I have scrolled down to Peppermint GNU/Linux, with Linux 4.15.0-34-generic and pressed Enter but the screen fills with messages like 'couldn't get size', couldn't get UEFI db list, /dev/sda2/ contains a file system with errors, the root filesystem on /dev/sda2/ requires a manual fsck, and ends with (initrams) with the flashing cursor. I have left it there at the moment and went to my windross machine and sent this help request hoping you can help.
The laptop is rather old now and I may be better cleaning it up and installing the latest peppermint but I need access to passwords etc. before I do that unless I can install a new version and hope I can save passwords etc. ??

Hi Mark,
When I recently went to run DraftSight it said my trial had expired and to log in and get an update. I tried this but have not been able to get it installed and running to date. I was then told that the FREE version would be unavailable from the end of December so I thought it a waste of time to install for a couple of months as I didn't intend purchasing it.
I also have bricscadV17 listed in the Graphics table and it doesn't work either, when I click on it nothing happens.
I have installed LibreCad and it works ok.
Can you help me get rid of DraftSight and bricscad ??

Hi Mark,
I am back again with this printer.
I carried out your original instructions and the printer prints ok.
But the scanner doesn't work, when I try to scan from the printer/scanner to the computer it produces an error :-

Communication error. Check the connection.

I have been ignoring this for a while now and have just the the Windows computer and the Brother printer to do my scanning but it is beginning to irk me that I purchased this NEW printer/scanner and I have failed to get it working to my satisfaction.
I believe the manufacturer spends more on research finding ways to stop the use alien printing ink cartridges than they do on making a useful printer that can be used/set up by idiots like me.
Rant ober, hope you can help.

Hi Mark,
I would like to install lightburn on my linux computer, it comes with the following info.

Linux Installation
1. Open a terminal and run the following command:
sudo adduser $USER dialout && sudo adduser $USER tty
2. IMPORTANT! Log out and log back in (this refreshes the permissions we just added)
3. Download the Linux 64-bit version
4. Extract the folder wherever you want Lightburn to exist
5. Double click AppRun inside your Lightburn folder

Is this ok to install ?? I don't like to install anything and then come back here to get un-install advice when it doesn't work, or should I just try and see what happens ??

I really need to dual boot in this machine. I have some programmes that will only run in Windows. Can I install Windows beside Peppermint or will I need to wipe the HD, install Windows and the install Peppermint alongside

Hi ,
I need help to run a Windows programme that will NOT be ported to Linux.
I have tried Wine, Winetricks , Play on Linux, VB etc. but none of them seem to work as I want.
I realise that this problem is not really a Unix problem as such so I can only hope for general advice in this matter.
I am thinking the only way to get this programme to run is by dual booting and using Windows to run this programme. I have a 64 bit January 2014 Windows 7 disc (with Service Pack 1) and hoping this would be OK for the Windows side ??
Any thoughts ??

My computer running Linux started this morning with a strange message and I have no idea what is happening now.
At the moment when I start up it comes up with the onscreen message

/dev/sda2 contains a file system with errors, check forced.
/dev/sda2: Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found.

       (i.e., without -a or -p options)

I have installed a new printer and am having problems with it and would like this startup problem sorted before I can get back to using my Linux computer.

Hi,
I had to purchase a new printer today and it is an Epson XP-355. I have setup the printer with ink etc and it works. I have installed it on my Windows 10 machine as the drivers are for Windows and it is working well.
My problem is I want it working on this Linux computer in Peppermint and I need help to do this.
I have the drivers (I think) from the Epson site, epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.22-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb and epson-printer-utility-1.0.2-1lsb3.2.x86_64.rpm.
Are these the correct drivers and how do I install them ?? Can anyone help please ??

EDIT I have got the printer working with this computer via USB. I have downloaded the Linux drivers but don't know the best way to install them. When I print from the computer I have horizontal banding across my colour pictures I may get rid of this by using the correct drivers. Can anyone help with installing the drivers. ??

Hi Mark,
I have an Acer Aspire 5732Z that dual boots Windows 10 and Peppermint 8. I want to remove the Peppermint 8 and leave the Win 10 setup for my grandson.
Is there an easy way to remove Peppermint 8 ??

I have almost completed an install of virtualbox. When I get to this it throws an error as follows

I added this post to another that I had made but I thought it better to start a new thread.
I was told this is how to get the T2 laser engraving software to work in Linux.
I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it and would like to know if you can have a look ?
I really need simple (really simple) instructions as I would dearly love to run on my Linux computer, at present I am running on a Win 10 computer and I am sure I am breaking out in spots and boils 
I have purchased the software to run on the Windows machine but I will purchase another copy if it will run in Peppermint.
Can you help ??

Hi,
Where do I get the latest Wine package ? I had a look at Synaptic but am confused and I had a look using the Software Manager but the the reviews said it was ages out of date??
I want to run a Windows programme and have setup a Virtual Box. It doesn't work very well, screen size is driving me up the wall and the response time is chronic.
Someone has ported the programme to Linux OS and I have the instructions but it will be a last resort.
I was hoping to try Wine, any help ??
