General Discussion / Backup program
« on: August 02, 2014, 09:06:22 am »
I got a list of backup progs here
Are any of these particularly good, or is a better one not listed ?
Or is the already installed Deja DUP all I need ?

I have my install on a 1TB disk, and have a spare 1TB disk that would be good for my backups I think. I don't need to back up the OS, just important data.
I suppose I could just copy and paste to the spare drive but is there a better way ?

Let's say I bought an Ainol 10.1 inch tablet (I did) and I'm wondering if I can have linux on it - what's the best way ?

Can I put it on an SD card like you can put it on a USB stick ?

General Discussion / Return of the Cinnamon fallback curse
« on: July 08, 2014, 05:13:48 am »
I've tried to get Cinnamon running along with fglrx drivers for the last few releases - never worked. I think I've been trying since mint 13. Just tried 17 - junk.

I do everything simple and right.
Install OS
Install fglrx
Do the aticonfig thing

Did that with all of them.

Millions of people use AMD cards. Tens of millions. Why not make life possible for them ?
I'm not looking for a solution, I can't throw more time into it, I'm just having a moan.
The open source drivers gave me a nice dual screen out the box - that's a win, but no fglrx = no games and OpenCL

General Discussion / Happy Announcement

I'm pleased to say that the new Xubuntu makes all my ralink USB wifi dongles work out the box.
I've got three different models and only one of them would work without tinkering - but I just made a new install and now they all work right away, so I say well done to the ubuntu team !!
