Linux Support / New pc and vitual machine
August 26, 2020, 11:50:37 AM
My current pc build is 8 years old so I'm thinking of building another one to preempt this one failing and have a few questions.I'm currently dual booting between Mint and Windoze but i'm getting annoyed with this and I can never get wine to play properly so i'm thinking Vm.So run windows within Linux VM and was wondering would a SSD of 500gb be enough or go for I Tb hdd?.I dont store a lot of stuff such as music or videos just mainly photos and docs.
I was even going to try out Vm on the current pc to make sure it will run the windoze programs or is the no need,as everything will run as if on a Windoze pc.
Thanks for looking.

Linux Support / Remove w10 (SOLVED)
June 01, 2019, 05:33:19 AM
I'm currently dual booting Mint19.1 alongside w10 but I'n now a convert and want to remove w10  .Would the easiest method be to reinstall Mint and choose 'erase disk and Install Mint' and if I did it this way can I still create  root, swap and home partitions  or will Mint automatically set up it's own partitions. If so can I then use gparted to alter the partitions to create the 3 partitions?
The other option seems to be to go into gparted and just delete the windows partition/s  then reclaim the space for Mint.If I did it this way can the three partitions already created be resized as well?

Thanks.

Linux Support / Card reader (SOLVED ish)
December 01, 2018, 08:27:37 AM
Plugging card reader into Mint 19 gives me a recognition sound albeit slow but then no card is detected or shown to be mounted.I have checked that in the settings it's set to automount but still only sound when plugging and unplugging card reader. The card reader is not listed under devices I'm sure it's probably something simple but I have yet to find an answer that works.
ps
The card I'm trying to read is a XD card.
Thanks.

Linux Support / Send to (SOLVED)
November 15, 2018, 11:00:39 AM
In windows if you want to place files in a certain folder you use the send to feature ie music files highlight the files right click then send to 'Xmas'  folder within music etc.I  currently use cut/copy and paste is this the right way or does Mint have a better way?

General Discussion / Mint is a keeper
November 08, 2018, 10:31:50 PM
Really impressed with Mint 19 still dual booting on desktop with W8 pro due to Photoshop being better than Gimp and more 'how to' videos available. Now have carried it over to Missus's laptop and dual booting alongside W10 which is absolutely SH**E,but keeping it in case Microsoft offer a free upgrade to next OS.

Linux Support / Partitioning (solved)
September 23, 2018, 09:52:15 AM
I am currently duel booting with w8 which I want to keep and have been reading about partitioning.I'm going to reinstall Mint after I have given a bigger partition to it from the windows side.So my question is in duel boot when installing cinnamon will I still be given the option to partition the drive so i can have 3 partitions as recommended / swap and home as at the moment I only have one partition in Mint and don't want to be manually copying files etc if new distro comes out?
Thanks

Linux Support / Listening to radio (solved)
September 13, 2018, 07:15:57 AM
Trying to listen to radio stations through browser (Opera) with radioplayer but getting nothing.RadioPlayer opens but does not play anything. If I try LBC I just get the player opening, for BBC stations I get message to 'enable flash player in browser',but IT IS enabled.Have tried using Radiotray but when I added LBC it wouldn't play and got a large notification about suitable plugins  could not be found.
Can anybody shed any light on getting it to work.
Thanks.
Edit
just found a link for playing LBC  and BBC but not an ideal way of doing it at     http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/query.asp?feedme=LBC%20(UK)  which then plays in VLC

Edit
vlc stopped playing streams now... >:(

Thanks.
