I have taken Mark Greaves advice to move from Evolution to Thunderbird. Does anyone know of a simple and easy to understand way of getting all my e-mails over to Thunderbird?
Thanks in advance.

New to Evolution e-mail and I want create an interesting Signature involving an image plus some additional wording - what Evolution calls "script". I have created a one liner "script" and saved it in my documents. However everytime I go to load it I get this message:"Script file must exist and be executable".  Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

General Help & Advice / Paperport and Virtual machine????
« on: May 12, 2010, 05:14:41 pm »
Now that I'm into Linux I would love to carry on using PaperPort and I am reliably informed I can use it within Linux via something called "Virtual Machine"?

If this is so could some kind soul show me how is simple and easy to understand steps? Perhaps at the same time you can let me know what other uses and benefits this "Virtual Machine" can provide?

Just for the record I have only been using Linux for a week or two and I get more impressed with each day that passes - the product itself and the support and help - BRILLIANT! Microsoft should be shaking in their boots!

I have installed Open Office Word Processor from Ubuntu Software Centre. However the drop menus, and navigation bar are missing some of their command titles and in their place are a few zeros, leaving you to guess what a particular command is! Same problem exists within the print document command menus as well. I have tried reloading the program but the problem persists.

At the moment I am forced to go back to Windows for all my word processing, which is a backward step having bought into the Linux/Ubuntu publicity!

Any practical suggestions?

Ubuntu / Ubuntu log-in mystery ...HELP REQUIRED URGENTLY
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:21:40 am »
Yesterday I successfully downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 on a dual boot basis. Therefater I simply chose Ubuntu at the dual boot command and I went straight into Ubuntu. I went in and a few times yesterday with no problems whatsoever. However this morning after the dual boot page I now get a totally black screen with a request for log-on details??? Why did this suddenly appear?  I have tried every conceivable variation of log-in I can think but it rejects everyone. What do can I do to get back into Ubuntu, and then how do I avoid this log-in page in the future?
I am really, really impressed with Ubuntu and am desperate to start using it so any help will be much appreciated. PLEASE!
