Take a look at the Peppermint Install Guide http://peppermintos.com/guide/install/
/dev/sda would be the first HD

If you are using it for installation then - NO
However if you intend to use it to run it as a live environment (with presistance) then stick with the USB

[EDIT]
You could try a different live usb creator http://live.learnfree.eu/

Glad it is all sorted

If you have a CD/DVD writer in the puter then you could try
to write the iso to CD http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/burnisofile.htm
Then boot from that (you might have to change the boot order in the BIOS)

Could you post the content of your fstab:
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/fstab
Also you could try to substitute the
//<server name>/<share>
with
//<ip address of server>/<share>
if that works then add the ip address and server name to your hosts file
and then just use the server name option in the fstab

There is a simple guide for editing etc of fstab over at the
Ubuntu Community Documentation https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab
The one thing to watch out for is the text editor they use like 'gedit' which you may not have on peppermint
(substitute any references with whatever text editor you may have)

Hi,

The following worked on my Acer Aspire One A110:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
add the following line:
blacklist acer_wmi
save and power off (not reboot)

This might not work on Peppermint but it worked with Crunchbang (openbox)

I am no expert in this but you could try the server edition:
 http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-SE.php  :)

Linux Support / Re: where are the bookmarks?

Hi,

This is the location on my Crunchbang insallation:
/home/<user>/.config/chromium/Default

I expect Chrome would have the same location

To see it you have to enable  view of hidden files

Hi,

I am no expert in this but if you have not tried it before then you could look at
GParted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php
and check if the boot flag is set on the HDD

Hi

You could try  Clonezilla http://clonezilla.org/
In the past I have used (Clonezilla Live) a few times and had no problems

You can also look at Partimage http://www.partimage.org/ although never used it

Any more news on MATE?
Interesting new development at Mint: Cinnamon http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=205&t=89411&start=0
It looks like they have forked the shell of Gnome 3 to give a Gnome 2 appearance.
Can't wait to see how this pans out.

OK, Had a quick look on that link and found precisely 12 linux OS By HP and 3 off Apple OS X
out of 129, the rest was Windows (with In stock disabled)

I agree with the need for the education to be educated in respect of other Operating Systems.
Some   have already taken steps to try to break the vendor lock in.

I was running LMDE happily on my main machine when a recent update brought all the Gnome 3 goodness.
On next reboot I was greeted by a Gnome 3 Shell desktop. Needless to say that it did not last long
as I switched to the XFCE version.

I am looking forward to your update as I am curious to see how this compromise will work out.
