So can it read the contents of the Peppermint DVD ? .. ie. can you open it in file manager and see the contents ?

And have you considered using a USB stick (LiveUSB) instead for the installation ?

Let it upgrade Virtualbox:-

a) it's a newer version (6.0.14)
and
b) it's the right version for your updated system (ie. bionic rather than xenial)

Jobs Offered / Re: Design Engineer (f/m/d)

You haven't included contact details ?

Your link just provides information about the product, not how to get in touch about the job offer.
(which is a little troubling as it could be taken as purely SEO)

Can you try
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
again and see if you still get errors ? .. because I think those errors may have been due to an internet dropout

Okay, first let's backup that file before editing it .. run:
Code: [Select]
sudo cp -v /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.backup
now open the file for editing
Code: [Select]
sudo mousepad /etc/apt/sources.list
and make it read
Code: [Select]

Can you run:
Code: [Select]
mousepad /etc/apt/sources.list
and post the contents of the file that opens back here.
(I'm pretty sure the contents are listed above, but just wanna make 100% sure of the formatting)

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
and
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/apt/sources.list; for X in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*; do echo; echo; echo "** $X:"; echo; cat $X; done

Well I can't see how they could CREATE subdirectories if they're not allowed to write to the parent directory .. because creating directories requires write permission.

General Help & Advice / Re: partition hard disk to accept linux OS
« on: October 19, 2019, 05:31:37 pm »
Usually the Linux installer will offer to do this for you (eg. In Ubuntu and derivative distros the installer will offer you "Install alongside Windows") .. shrinking the Windows partition automagically to make room.

Your other option would be to manually shrink the Windows partition from within Windows itself .. THEN to boot the Linux installation media and tell the installer to use the 'free space'.

Or the installer will usually also allow you to manually specify the partition scheme.

Which Linux distro were you thinking of using ?

Not 100% sure what you're asking...

If you're asking if it's possible to have a directory WITHOUT write permissions (by a particular users/groups), but have a subdirectory WITH write permissions .. yes.

Try it
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/test-parent
mkdir ~/test-parent/test-child
chmod 555 ~/test-parent
Now see if you can create a file or folder in ~/test-parent and ~/test-parent/test-child

Or am I misunderstanding the question ?

You can delete these test folders (and contents) when you're done testing with:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -r ~/test-parent

Kali is based on Debian .. the 3070 chipset (with the IDvendor:IDdevice string 148f:3070) is covered by the rt2800usb driver.

Instructions for rt2800usb in Debian can be found here:
https://wiki.debian.org/rt2800usb

I doubt this driver will get you the 'injection' you're probably after for aircrack-ng but it should get wireless working .. if 'injection' is your goal, please take this matter up on the Kali forum.

If you want the driver I posted in the earlier topic, just ask .. but again I seriously doubt it'll compile against recent kernels .. I'm happy to give you the source code, but I can no longer provide help compiling it because I:-
a) don't have a 3070 based card.
b) am not running anything with an old kernel (where it's liable to compile).
c) don't run (or understand the weird repository structure used by) Kali Linux.
d) have no use for (or wish to help people with) aircrack-ng for wireless cracking.

Also please don't report posts just to try get my attention .. that forum function is for reporting posts that you think may breach forum rules and/or good forum etiquette.
(in short, I'll attempt to help anyone on this forum where I can .. using the forums 'Report to Moderator' function with the note "no more replies?" just to get my attention is unnecessary, annoying, and is in itself a breach of forum rules and good forum etiquette)
