Linux Support / Re: Printers
« on: March 24, 2021, 04:58:44 pm »
Hi Osmond,
For what its worth, would agree with keith and Emegra, I have used HP Printer with Peppermint, 6,8, 9 and now 10, and also with Linux Lite and Windows 10, no major problems.

Great news for all us Pepperminters.

that  is one hell of a question, have you tried Peppermint OS?
I have used this for a few years now and whilst not a computer geek have found that it does everything i want it to do, its lightweight, fast and adaptable to your individual tastes, have a look and give it a whirl.

Good luck,

It appears that Tapping the Esc key followed by F9  did the trick.

Thanks again for the responses.

Can I thank everyone who has posted responses to this query, I can say that my friend has found the correct sequence of keys to access the boot menu, it does appear to vary widely depending upon the actual model, also needed to go through secure boot option, but I think this is now sorted.
He is very appreciative of the help and has learned a lot.

Thanks for the response, he has tried the various "simple" options, eg, F10, Esc etc but apparently this doesn't get him to the boot order screen.
My first advice to him was on those lines, I just tap F12 on my Dell and up pops the boot screen.
Is this something yo do with Windpws and uefi? It us so long since I had windows and it as certainly pre uefi.

I am trying to assist a friend who is sick of Windows 10, he has a pavilion netbbok laptop, he has downloaded peppermint 10 to a USB but cannot get into the boot menu to try the peppermint with a view to replacing Windows.
Can someone please give a step by step guide to get into the boot menu, it seems much more complicated than on my Dell laptop.
your help is much appreciated,

Deeply shocked when I read of Mark's passing, like so many other Linux users he helped me enormously even with the most basic of problems, always ready to help, the Linux world has lost one of it's most influential people, my condolences to Mark's family.

Downloaded Peppermint 10, 32 bit version and that has booted no problem, so my Grandson will be a happy bunny tomorrow.
Thanks for the hints and tips along the way, learn something new every day, and some of us have an awful lot to learn.

Ok,  tried the Nomodeset parameter again and this time got a reaction from the Laptop, the response after Loading/casper etc and loads of dots was:
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.  Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

Can you advise further please now.
Or is the answer that I need the 32 bit version for this laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,
Well tried the nomodeset parameter but no joy no boot at all. Tried both with a DVD and with a USB, still just sits at the same screen.
Any other ideas?

Thanks Graeme,
i seem to have hit an impasse at the moment, found a usb with pep 8 on which i used to put on a laptop for my granddaughter, tried it out on my Inspiron and it works fine, tried it on my grandsons Inspiron and it is just like the DVD, it goes to the opening menu offering Try Peppermint etc put after pressing enter nothing happens at all.
so i am now at a loss unless you guys have any further ideas about what may be causing the problem.

thanks again for your input so far,
