Linux Support / K9 Copy
« on: June 24, 2015, 04:10:35 pm »
If you own DVD`s that are bought in stores and you are not reselling them, and require them to be copied just in case your original DVD`s become of no use, apart from being used as coasters, then what`s the answer?

I used to use K9Copy until it was no longer maintained. There was rumours of someone else taking it over, but that seems like a long time ago. Pauline Martin restarted the development, but only as tarballs. Quite tricky for someone with my capabilities, then I came across this >

Nice & easy .deb files to download. Works a treat on my Mint 17, thanks to tom   8).

Please remember that it`s use is only for personal use not for profit or gain.

Hi Melissa,
If you open Pulse Audio, choose input device and go down to show: Monitors. That usually works for me.

I have no experience of UEFI, I don`t know if disabling UEFI will help, there`s a guide here - http://itsfoss.com/disable-uefi-secure-boot-in-windows-8/

Thank you Mark,
I had a query the other day about this and not knowing a great deal about these things, the best option I thought, would be to ask someone who has a better idea.
Having pretty pathetic internet speeds anyway, anything that would reduce it further seems to be not a good idea. I will pass on the info.

Thanks again.

Linux Support / VPN

Hi all,
Just a query about VPN`s. They give you anonymity while being online, but do they slow the speed down? Is there any detriment when using secure sites e.g. online banking etc.

Having visited a few VPN providers, they show a little map of where I am (supposedly) situated via my ISP. The position they give on their maps is roughly 20 miles from where I am. So they don`t know where I am anyway!  ???

I`m not very clued up on it so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Melissa,
Just a thought, and I may be wrong here. Do you have pulse audio volume control installed. Usually it`s not needed but occasionally I need it.

Hi mikep,
If you are interested in fsarchiver you can download the live cd-dvd from here.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/qt4-fsarchiver/files/

There seems to be an English version now as well, precise fits on CD, trusty fits on DVD.

Hi folks,
Just putting my twopenneth worth in if that`s OK.
I used to use Remastersys (which was brill), now sadly gone, so I started looking for something else to suit my requirements.

I tried Redo as mentioned but it had one fault for me. I have five partitions on my hard drive, so I could backup a single partition no problem. When I started to do a "dummy" restore, as I tend to do, just to see how it works, I couldn`t restore the single partition back to it`s position. It would only restore it back to the drive as one whole unit, thereby destroying the data on the other partitions. I hope I`ve explained that better than it sounds, but then again perhaps I`m not using it right.

Then I came across FSArchiver which does exactly what I want it to. Back up SDA1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to USB either flash drive or external drive, restore back to the original place, no problem. Quick & easy to use, once you get used to the German interface.

Sorry to ramble on, just my take on it. Should I mention I use Mint 17?
