Linux Support / Replace peppermint7 with peppermint9
« on: November 09, 2018, 04:01:13 pm »
Asus UX301 Peppermint 7.

I am in the process of replacing Peppermint 7 with 9. Using 128GB USB stick. I think I have 9 on the stick but cannot proceed further. Have used  Direct download then "Disc Image Writer (Default)" which just gets me back to Direct Download again. I n other words we go round in a circle. What am I doing wrong?

Incidentally, I thought that there would be the option of removing 7 at the same time as installing 9 but so far there has been no indication of that.

Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Libre Calc.

Lbre Calc has been modified beyond description. I can no longer change font, number style, position in cell to name but a few. I can save which is rather academic since
I cannot make any changes to my spreadsheet. Calc used to  be easy to use with options offering all the commonly used operations. What is going on?

I have a Libre Calc spreadsheet. The default font appears to be Liberation Sans but I have changed the font for my spreadsheet to Ubuntu Light. However if I move a row of cells the vacant space left reverts back to Liberation Sans. I choose Tools - Options - Fonts and follow the instructions to replace Liberation with Ubuntu. Nothing happens after several goes. Any suggestions?

General Discussion / prospective linux user

How do I learn about linux? Books? Manuals? Articles?. Not particularly computer literate but familiar with Fortran and Basic in the very distant past (that dates me). Requirements are Internet access, e-mail, word processing, spread sheets. printing (HP All-in-one 4280).  Entroware (is this an American company?) offer laptops with Ubuntu  which would be a straightforward introduction. Also quite taken with Asus Zenbook 305 but this would mean installing linux and getting rid of Windows 10. Judging by Ed's problems with Peppermint ("going over to linux") I don't think I would want to go there (the technical jargon is impenetrable in any case). Grateful for any comments.

Incidentally, are there any linux devotees in the Market Rasen, Lincolnshire,UK area?
