I recently realized that Firefox is not as independent as they say.  The space bars for typing into say clearly search with google also I have to fill in a google cookies consent in order to use. There are many other search engines out there that claim to be independent but collect info or use other search engine platforms to operate from.  The only truely independent search engine I can find is Tor which has a bad image. Maybe it deserves the image as it bounces information around from server to server to make tracing impossible.  I dont want that degree of privacy as I am not doing anything criminal.

I want a search engine where my privacy is guaranteed, where my activities are not tracked and where people do not sell my information to advertisers. I do not want anything to do with firms who store every detail of information about me.  This stuff could be used against an individual by Governments.  Democracy is a fragile tool.  If an individual is a serious criminal or suspected terrorist then Government can get the necessary consent from courts to follow and trace that person

Why cant linux create a search engine where there is no collection of data or sites visited, no cookies or adverts. Linux does quite well as open source. Wouldn't a decent search engine to go alongside Thunderbird mail help attract people

I found del for bios and changed the boot order. The 20.04 disc loads up to a black screen with loads of white writing which is too small for me to read. There are lines and lines of this stuff.  The word error keeps coming up.  It then goes over to another black screen with ubuntu at the bottom and a whirlygig that goes round and round.  I timed it for ten whole mins.  It doesnt go any further.

I did however manage to find a site where I downloaded ubuntu which was then scratched onto a disc in my dvd tray.  It was supposed to be 20.04 but it turned out to be 16.04.  It is the same as the disc I was given many years ago and gives me all the options including rewrite empty space on the hdd.  I have managed to get all my hdds up to 16.04 now.  It is going to cost me loads to now upgrade over the airwaves in giggy bits.  Would it be possible for you to send me a link so I can download 20.04 and write it to a disc.  Then I will have it once and be able to upgrade my hard drives to 20.04.

I get old cheap computers and load linux on then distribute them locally to other oldies who dont really understand computers. It is not about money I get a meal or a pint out of each one maybe.  It is about helping older people to realize that computers dont have to be expensive, hard to use or frustrating. 

I learned just recently that children in school are learning to programme with linux treminal.  That is a tuely great idea.  I have found a couple of videos on you tube and just started.  Is there an organised programme of getting terminal programming into schools.  That is the way to go.  When childeren leave school looking at linux as their first choice then it will take off.  If others my age can help distribute to other oldies knowing that the grand children are there to help then sooner orlater the parent generation get sandwiched between us and encouraged over as well.

Hi Keith I now have this disc but have no idea what to do with it.

My old disc loaded itself and gave me options

line 1 wipe hdd
line 2 wipe hdd load ubunty
line 3 install ubuntu alongside existing operating system  All I had to do was select option and press return

Now I haver a disc with loads of files but no go button so I have no idea what to do.

shouldn't we be trying to make ubuntu accessible  to the ordinary person who is not an anorak otherwise how are we going to encourage people away from microsoft

My life has got massively easier since meeting you and I now have managed to update an old hdd which I had with 18.04 to 20.04 over the air waves.  I have ordered and paid for a disc which I still prefer.  20.04 is working with my android. I know Linux is much more versatile and easier to use than Microsoft.  Print screen is however the limit of my understanding. I would not even know what to put in a terminal as I have never programmed in my life.

I use for my own office work including printing, enlarging footpath maps and watching videos on you tube mainly.  Any suggestions on how I could use Linux Ubuntu to a greater degree or a book showing the potential.  Please remember I am a total novice at this stuff but would like to get Microsoft, google, out of my life for good.  Any suggestions on getting my desk top computer to talk to a linux based mobile phone.  I would like to help others at my level to be able to use Ubuntu as a functioning desk top operating system.  Is this reply going only to you or is it readable by others as a reply to my blog if so any suggestions for a total novice would be appreciated
