Yes the problem was fixed as the drivers were offer as part of installing mint 19.3 mate 64bit.

Thanks for your information.

2
In the end I did a clean installation of mint 19.3 mate 64bit.

3
Thanks for that info.

I am not using the 340 driver.

The 390 driver is newer and was working just fine until I tried to use the older driver.

I just want my 390 driver working again.

Driver manager shows I am using the 390 driver but when the computer starts I am told to check my drivers as there is a problem.

4
Running mint 19.3 cinnamon (this is an upgrade from 18.3).

As I was having issues launching a game I thought I would try a different graphics driver (340) as listed in the driver manager.

The change was not allowed and when I tried to return to the recommended 390 driver I was told that the following dependences were not on the system.

Depends: libnvidia-gl-390 but it is not installed
 nvidia-driver-390 : Depends: libnvidia-gl-390 (= 390.138-0ubuntu0.18.04.1)

I have tried repairing them through the "Package manager" I am told they can not be installed.
I tried installing them through apt and I am told there is a conflict with the 340 driver.
Also tried install the 390 driver package from Nvidia.

Any clues please how I can restore the dependencies.

Thank you.

General Help & Advice / Re: Looking for new email client - Resolved
« on: May 06, 2020, 01:49:13 pm »
HI thanks for the replies.

An email client makes managing the 5 different company email accounts easy.

As a small business I need the same abilities as you get in MS Exchange and we also have clients who write in different languages.

The strange thing is that these add-ons used to work in Thunderbird 52 but are not working now.

Have tried claws-mail and another programs from the Repros but they do not have the options I need.

Got it working but had to change settings that are only usable by people with some experience.
Basic removed any reference to blacklisted add-ons.

General Help & Advice / Looking for new email client
« on: May 04, 2020, 03:50:22 pm »
Using mint 18.3 64 bit.

For many years I have been using Thunderbird for my email and lighting for my calender.  There wer lots of good add-ons for highlighting and translating  emails.

Since version 60 there have been lots of issues so I rolled back to version  52 with the help of a previous topic.

But still the add-ons are not working.

So have been looking for a new email client but can not find a multi-platform system with the same apps ( spell check, calender, highlighter and translator) any one got any recommendations?

or know how to get the add-ons working in Thunderbird?

General Help & Advice / Re: Laptop freezes or restarts

Hi have reinstalled PIX so will see what happens.

I think it must be a sofware issue or some form of conflict that happens from time to time.

General Help & Advice / Laptop freezes or restarts
« on: February 15, 2020, 11:49:29 am »
Samsung R60 plus running mint 18.3 64bit.

The computer freezes or restarts only when running slide shows of photos stored both on the computer or the LAN.

The system is not overheating and I ran 8 hours of memory tests no problems found.
HDD tests found no problems.

I have tried a different program with the same results.

CPU is at 30% and RAM at 25% when the slide show is running.

Any thoughts what could be wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the information. Now updated but just as a thought what is the point of a LTS release if support is restricted.

Later versions of mint say that networking especially with windows computers is not so good so not sure if I want to upgrade my system.

 Thanks for your help.

I downloaded the program and did a stand-alone install.

I am using Mint 18.3 64bit

I updated my LibreOffice to - LibreOffice_6.2.5_Linux_x86-64

Every time I open the program I am told there is an up date available.

I would like for the up dates to take place automagically is that possible?

Any help appreciated.

Peppermint / Re: What can cause a laptop to freeze?
« on: June 26, 2019, 09:42:30 pm »
I have tried all present peppermint versions 8, 9 and 10 on live USB and the same thing happens.

However tried with  mint 18.3 (mate) 64bit live USB and no problems with showing the presentations over six hours.

So have installed mint and closed this request.

Thanks for your help.

Peppermint / Re: What can cause a laptop to freeze?
« on: June 18, 2019, 10:32:04 am »
It started when I installed peppermint 8.  I used an older version of mint before (worked OK) but the newer versions are to heavy for the Dual core CPU so changed to peppermint.

Yesterday was typical.....  streamed over the LAN a 2 hour video presentation - then set up a new 200 photo presentation and it froze after one hour the presentation is shown continuously.

Another interesting point is the system time in the bios it is always 2 hours behind the computer time.  If I change the system time in the bios and check the following day it has returned to 2 hours behind.   I have checked the bios battery and it is OK.
