Internet Connectivity / NO Internet connection Mint 18.3
« on: May 14, 2019, 01:29:50 pm »
Running mint 18.3 64bit system.

I connect via a cable LAN to the internet.

The LAN is working just fine can connect to all equipment on the LAN.

But CAN NOT connect to the internet.  Anything that needs to connect to the internet is not working.

Also tried via Wi-Fi and get connected to the modem but no connection to the internet.

Tried using a Live USB of mint 18.3 and everything works just fine.

Word documents without complex settings maybe OK but open an office 365 power point presentation and it can take hours to make it useable in L.O.

So I am hoping that L.O. 6 is an improvement.
Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for your input.  Each new version has better MS Office integration.

All our clients even the Mac users use MS Office and there can be issues opening files.

I would like to be able to ditch using MS Office for external communications but LO just not 100% reliable.

I am using mint 18.3  I have Libre Office 5.1.6.2 installed.

A friend told me that there is now a version 6 of Libre Office.  I was wondering why my version is not being upgraded.

Is it possible to install the newer version directly?

Thank you for your comments in advance.

Did not find out any info on Mint No one had reported the same problem with mint18.3 with this taskbar app (not a desktop Cinnamon app).

I am using another app (KNotes) but have to remember to start it each morning.

I put it in the list of programs that start on boot but I still have to open it and select open all notes.

Mint 18.3 cinnamon 64bit - I upgraded from version 18.2 and when I booted this morning "Sticky Notes" failed to start.

I was asked to check if I had the latest version which I do only updated this month. https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/194

No one had reported the same problem with mint18.3 with this taskbar app.

I was also told to check the system log but I can not find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Peppermint / Re: Home , Trash and other desktop icons (resolved)

I found the setting in the end it was not easy.

Would think that most users want these icons on the desktop by default. Just something to think about.

Peppermint 8 64bit

As I have done a clean install and I can not find the setting to place the Home, Computer, Trash and Network icons on the desk top.

I had them before............  I tried looking under file settings no joy.

Help please.

Hi Mark

I have resolved this by doing a clean install of Peppermint 8 64bit.

Now working OK but how do I prevent the Kernel being updated?

Thanks so far for your suggestions.

I would not give up just yet.  I am running a windows 7 and mint 18.2 64bit desk top with very few problems.

Mark would it be a good plan to find out the specs of the system and try a number of live USBs to see which version of Linux is the best.

For me I always find windows takes longer to start then mint.
