[SOLVED] Export/Import to Thunderbird
« on: August 03, 2012, 11:57:20 am »
I have just moved over to 12.04 from 11.10 and I want to keep all my Thunderbird e-mail and calendar data, I can't see a full export option in Thunderbird on my 11.10 setup but there IS an import in both 11.10 and 12.04 versions.
If I cant export the stuff I want to keep, is there a way of SAFELY moving the info from my 11.10 Thunderbird folder to my 12.04 Thunderbird folder?

Yes .. rename the hidden ~/.thunderbird folder in 12.04 to something like ~/.thunderbird-old

Then COPY the 11.10 ~/.thunderbird folder to the same place in  12.04

Only do this with Thunderbird closed.

When you start Thunderbird in 12.04, it will have all the mail/settings from 11.10

That make sense ?

Yes .. rename the hidden ~/.thunderbird folder in 12.04 to something like ~/.thunderbird-old

I can't rename it, the option is greyed out!

We'll come back to this in a bit .. I think it's realted to the Xscreensaver issue.

More specifically the permission issues I warned you about with using the old 11.10 drive as the 12.04 /home

For now stick to this topic

OK, we've just renamed ~/.thunderbird (in your other topic) with:
mv -v ~/.thunderbird ~/.thunderbird old

So now what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a /media/Home_

Ooops, I forgot to make that change of ownership recursive.

Make sure Thunderbird ISN'T running .. then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo chown -Rv pooky2483:pooky2483 ~/.thunderbird

Then try Thunderbird
