QUERY: nohup background & relogin recover process
« on: January 15, 2013, 11:55:52 pm »
I know about nohup & to run a job in background. But there's a feature in Midnight Commander which you can start a large folder/file copy in background. What happens if I quit Midnight Commander, will that copy job still be running in background?

Also, if I ran nohup mc &
to run Midnight Commander with no hang up, how can I put it in background and foreground? What if I quit my terminal session then ssh log back in again, how can I get that same Midnight Commander process into foreground?

Though I haven't really used midnight commander, its my assumption that it's a terminal (ncurses) application

Have you looked into using the screen command to run midnight commander ?

You can then detach from the terminal session. and reconnect to it as you wish.

There are tons of online tutorial for using screen over ssh .. and using screen in general :)

Such as:

and
