If I'm understanding you .. no .. that wouldn't work anyway, as the version for 10.04 may not work in 12.04 which would have different lib versions, and some dependencies may not even exist in 12.04 any more (depreciated or renamed).

No, I just want to copy those installation packages to a folder if ever need them again.

Well, sorry to throw any more cold water on you, but Libre does the same weird stuff the last one did: the spell check flags nothing at all, and when you click on a file it opens Sea Monkey first (not when you open it from within the LO).

I know how to purge everything, if I want to install OOo writer, are there any other repositories for it- you think that install core, etc instruction would work, when it couldn't find those dependencies on normal install? Just to complete thread for others with problems- don't plan to mess with it, I think.

What's the difference between installing Pep3 on the first screen or waiting till it loads and doing it from within program. Guess if the LIVE version doesn't load can't trust it to install properly.

Spell checker, IIRC you have to set it in LO's "Preferences" (and possibly install the dictionary).

Seamonkey issue .. nothing to do with LO .. that's a f**k up in the way your system is dealing with default applications.

What's the contents of:
gedit ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

run:
gedit ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

change the line that reads:

application/msword=openoffice.org-writer.desktop;seamonkey-navigator.desktop;

to

application/msword=openoffice.org-writer.desktop;

SAVE the file .. log off/on (or reboot)

Now try opening a .doc by clicking on it

ALready did that, but waited for your confirmation. Yeah it works GREAT.  Open Office will default to Libre if there no OOo?

And didn't have to reboot- maybe you are thinking of Windows?

Can I save those packages before I delete them?

The Libre INSTALLATION packages- 76megs, that I want to delete. What folder are they in- do all installation packages downloads store in the same place? So I don't have to download them for 40 min, or find they've been deleted from repositories if I ever need them again.

Mark Greaves (PCNetSpec)

/var/cache/apt/archives

But they may cause you problems installing  on another PC .. they'd almost certainly need to be installed only in 10.04, and also installed in the correct order.
