OK, let's try the wl driver .. fire up synaptic package manager, and go to

Settings > Repositories > Other software tab

but a tick in the 2 boxes

Canonical Partners
and
Independent

Click the "Close" button .. and close synaptic.

Open a terminal and run:

I think a later kernel got installed .. try rebooting, then (if wireless doesn't just automatically start working) running:

then reboot, and come back here for further instructions .. when you've rebooted, post the output from:

Ok now it looks like the problem is solved here are the results Linux mamu-Inspiron-1010 3.8.0-31-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 10 19:56:49 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux.

Hi there! I know this is a very old post, but I got here from google, searching how to solve a wifi problem on a Dell Mini I use to work with sometimes and has Peppermint 5 OS on it. 
Just stopped by to say thanks a lot for the post , helped  me to solve out this nasty problem.
