Convewrting AVI into MPEG4(Solved)
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:44:13 pm »
Hi Guys,
I want to convert some home video, (holiday type stuff) from AVI to MPEG4  so that it will hopefully play from a USB stick on my Sony Bravia TV, your suggestions would be most appreciated. I would prefer the simplest of solutions  in order to carry out this task.
TIA,
Degsy

You are aware that AVI might already be MPEG4 ?

Here's what I'd use for conversion....

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install winff

then use WinFF and try setting it to:-

Convert to: AVI
Preset: XviD Widescreen

(that works on most devices, including my TV's and Xbox 360's)

or maybe

Convert to: MPEG-4
Preset:
(just choose one)

or maybe

Convert to: PS3
Preset: 720 Widescreen

or maybe

Convert to: WMV
Preset: Xbox 360

or create your own profile.

In most cases (to save having to convert a whole video for testing) you can convert say the first few minutes .. then stop the conversion .. and test the partially complete output file.

Hi Mark,
Tried again using the Preset Xvid Widescreen and that did work fine so  once again thank you very much for your help.
I will mark this topic solved.
