Chrome no longer supported (Solved)
« on: October 24, 2014, 12:34:20 am »
When I switch on my computer this evening and log onto my email accounts it says 'This version of Chrome is no longer supported'.
I downloaded and and installed google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb and the message is still there.
What have I done wrong. ?

I take it it's the email website that's returning that message ? .. and that other websites work properly ?

Which distro/version ?

Who is your webmail provider ?

and which version of chrome ?

If you don't know, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/lsb-release
and
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep chrome

DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Peppermint Five"
don@ldwatson ~ $ dpkg -l | grep chrome

Maybe ring VM support and ask them what the required version of Chrome is - the fact you're running Linux is irrelevant (in fact, I wouldn't mention it as they'll use it as an excuse not to help).

Worst case, if you can't find a PPA for the required/newer version, is to compile your own nightly version (will take ages, and may not work at all!)

Looks like you put a hold on the pre-aura version of Chrome

run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-mark unhold google-chrome-stable
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable
did it update to version 38.0.2125.104 ?

Thanks Mark,
I haven't tried to log on and see if there are any messages but will do later  :D

@chemicalfan I tried to contact the helpline but after some time going round in ever decreasing circles and some time trying to speak some form of English ? to HELP in India, I was slowly losing the will to live.   >:(  I just gave up and came back here where Mark has just provided another miracle.  ;D
Great karma

PS If all is well I will mark solved later
PPS I have signed in to both offending sites and all is ok.
Thanks again Mark  ;D
