I saw the message and replied too. I visited the pages you gave and you're very experienced, helping all over the platforms to help linux users specially newbies. And I've downloaded the peppermintos and its very small in size (596MB). I will give it a try tomorrow.

Please see it for what it is, a lightweight web oriented distro that's fully customisable to how YOU like it.

I've seen too many people review it expecting a load of locally installed apps, then marking it down for not having many .. that's not the point of Peppermint, the point is to have a fully functional distro (through the use of web apps), yet keep it small/light/fast and allowi the user to CHOOSE between locally installed apps or web apps that are tightly integrated into the menu or any mixture of the two.

Too many people seem to not spend the time to understand it, and rather judge it as "not Ubuntu" without giving it a chance, or thinking through the possibilities.

Think of it as ChromeOS like, but FULLY able to run normal Linux apps too .. indeed it comes with Synaptic and Mint's Software center, so has FULL access to the Ubuntu repos.

The thinking behind Peppermint in a sentence:-  It's ChromeOS, or it's Ubuntu, or anywhere in between .. YOUR choice :)

Yeh! And trying it in virtualbox will be good idea firstly, right? And no I'll not make decision without using it completely. I also saw some reviews on youtube after you told me about peppermint os. In short time anything can not be judged, so it should be given a bit long try to actually see what's in there.

Sure try it however you like .. be aware though that it's a LOT snappier when installed on proper hardware, dunno why but Peppermint 5 seems sluggish for some people in Vbox (mentioned in the release notes I think).
Weird because we never got this reported in Peppermint 4 .. maybe it a 14.04 thing (which it's based on).

If you turn out to be one of the few it runs sluggishly in Vbox for .. maybe try a LiveUSB with persistence.

Anyway, I feel like I'm trying to "sell" Peppermint  :o .. it'll stand on its own merit as long as you understand it's goal/niche .. or not, you decide ;)

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts though .. when you're ready :)
