I have a 1GB RAM CHIP to fit if required so that should give them the system max of 2Gb.  I will take a copy of peppermint just in case but will face the same wi-fi issues.

OK, you're not going to have a problem with Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon 32bit .. the files required for the wl driver are contained in the pool directory.

so just make sure the DVD is still inserted and that it's an active repo ... then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
done :)

If you want me to create a one-off Peppermint 6 32bit ISO with the requisite packages contained on the ISO .. let me know how long I've got.

I would need it by July 30 at midday so that I can put it on a live USB stick......

Thanks.

Okay, I've built a custom Peppermint 6 32bit ISO with the wl (and b43) drivers already pre-installed (and all updates to date), so there's no need to do anything, it should "just work" with no extra steps required.

As this image contains proprietary drivers I'm not going to post a public link, I'll upload it tonight and send you a link by personal message tomorrow.
(so check your personal messages Wed 18th July)

The ISO is slightly larger than usual because as a dkms module I also had to install build-essential so it could automagically rebuild when a kernel update occurs .. the only reason I mention this is because it will no longer fit on a CDROM, it will require either a DVD or a 1GB (or larger) USB stick fro a LiveUSB.

[EDIT]

@ Tramlink

Check your personal messages, you should find a link there .. if not, let me know.

Pleased to report that after an extra 2GB of Ram was fitted that mint 17.2 was installed with no problems.

Is working well and we have 3 more converts to Linux operating systems.

Thanks for all your help.
