[SOLVED] Unable to rip DVD's
« on: March 16, 2016, 08:09:33 pm »
I have K3b, Brasero, Acid:Rip & Handbrake installed and I am unable to backup/rip/copy DVD's.
In K3b I get "Unable to read video DVD contents: Found encrypted video DVD. Install libdvdcss to get video dvd encryption support. Yet it is installed.
When I use Handbrake and select the source, it scans the DVD but after the scan, it shows as empty!

I don't know what to do to fix the problem!!!

So you've already done
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
then
Code: [Select]
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
?

That got me a little further, I now get "K3b uses transcode to rip Video DVDs. Please make sure it is installed."

Try:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install transcode
if you still have problems, maybe try updating handbrake via their PPA
Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install handbrake-gtk handbrake-cli

Looks like it's working. Could this problem be somehow linked to the problem in my other thread HERE?

Spoke too soon.
Here's the debug output, in the file.

It kept coming up with "Execution of transcode failed"

I'm not going to respond to this unless you PROMISE to stop attaching files to postings in this forum unless specifically asked to do so by Admin.

This isn't the first (or second) time I've had to tell you this pooky.

Put any text output *IN* the posting, not as an attachment .. attachments take up space on Mad Penguins servers, but are not searchable by either search engines or future forum users.

Anything that needs "attaching" (archives, pics, etc.) should be hosted elsewhere and a link provided .. but text should be inline (in the posting).

Your attachment has been deleted in line with forum policy.

Seems like it's a handbrake bug .. take a look at the workaround suggested in post #5 here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transcode/+bug/1099201

Where they guy rips the DVD to the HDD as an ISO, then uses handbrake to rip the contents of the ISO

Not ideal, but a workaround.

That's actually what I am doing, I'm using K9Copy to rip to an .ISO so I can queue them up in Handbrake.
