Do you know your monitors native resolution (or the resolution you're using now) ?

do you know which graphics driver you're using ?

Please post the output from:
Code: [Select]
xrandr
and
Code: [Select]
lshw -C display

Yeah there's a "NOTIFY" button at the top of every topic page .. or you can change your notifications settings in the left hand column in your forum profile .. or by following this link:
https://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?action=profile;area=notification;u=22215

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
update-alternatives --query default.plymouth

See if running:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-initramfs -u
then rebooting makes any difference ?
